Mercedes Benz India has pushed forward the release date of the new C-Class confirming a launch on November 25 instead of next year as they had planned earlier. The 2015 Mercedes Benz C-Class gets styling inspired by the flaghsip S-Class both outside as well as inside along with features and tech derived from the bigger sedan. Mercedes’ best seller is expected to be launched at a starting price of Rs. 35 lakhs (ex-showroom).
Built on the new lightweight modular rear-drive MRA (Mercedes Rear-Drive Architecture) the 2015 Mercedes Benz C-Class is bigger than the outgoing model with an increase of 95mm and 40mm in length and width respectively while the wheelbase has gone up by 80mm translating into more legroom for the rear passengers. This increase in dimensions is primarily been carried out to distance the new car from the CLA-Class which almost the size of the outgoing C-Class.
The exterior design makes the 2015 Mercedes Benz C-Class look like a baby S-Class with protruding front grille, shoulder line sloping downwards, identical tail lamps, etc. Mercedes’ ‘Sensual Purity’ design language continues with a long bonnet, set-back cabin typical of a rear wheel drive sedan. The interiors as well are inspired by the S-Class and are more luxurious than before and are expected to make use of better quality materials. In terms of technology a whole of features present on-board the flagship S-Class sedan are expected to trickle down to the new C-Class including a level of autonomous driving at low speeds and in traffic jams, drowsiness detection, steering assistance, lane assistance and numerous parking assistance systems.
Initially the 2015 Mercedes Benz C-Class will be offered in only in petrol guise with a 2.0 litre four cylinder petrol producing 211 PS power and 350Nm peak torque. The 220CDI diesel is expected to follow later on with a 2.2 litre motor capable of 170 PS and 400 Nm torque and both engines will be mated to a 7 speed automatic transmission.
The new C-Class will be brought in initially as CBU or completely built unit so pricing will be slightly higher. Localisation is expected to happen later on though to keep things competitive. The range will be subsequently be expanded over the months with the coupe and cabriolet versions and an AMG tuned 2015 Mercedes Benz C-Class is expected as well but there is no confirmation regarding the launch of these vehicles as of now.
