Mahindra Xylo Facelift: All You Need to Know

Mahindra had stated earlier that it would be refreshing its range of vehicles in India to keep abreast with the competition, while developing the next generation of the same vehicles for a later launch. Mahindra has now launched the Mahindra Xylo facelift, which had been facing stiff competition from the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and most recently from the Honda Mobilio.

The Xylo is a good MPV, but the ride-and-handling especially at high speeds was one major reason why customers went for the competition. Mahindra claims that it has sorted out the suspension issues on the previous model, and the added style and features should attract more customers to the MPV. Launching the new Xylo before the beginning of the festive season may also help boost sales.

Price

The Mahindra Xylo facelift comes with two engine option, both diesel, and eight variants.

What’s New?

Design

Though the Xylo may not look very different at first glance, Mahindra has added some touches all around to make the MPV feel new. Changes at the front include a chrome strip just above the grille on the bonnet which is divided by the Mahindra logo. At the side the Xylo gets new body decals and the rear there is another chrome strip added above the number plate holder. The changes made in the previous facelift, launched in 2012, like the smoked headlamps with chrome garnish, new front and rear bumpers, side cladding and roof rails have been carried over.

Move to the inside and the design remain unchanged, but the black-and-beige theme replacing the older grey-and-beige theme) is new and so is the upholstery colour. The trim colour has also been changed from faux-wood to faux-grey wood. The instrument cluster has been redesigned. That’s all the changes in terms of design

Ride-and-handling

The biggest change made to the Xylo apart from the new 2.2-litre mHawk engine is the reworked suspension. Mahindra engineers have worked extensively on the Xylo’s suspension to contain body-roll and make the MPV a better handler at high speeds and under hard-braking. We will have to test it and check if the Xylo is now a better handler.

Engine

The Xylo is offered with two diesel engines. The 2.5-litre CRDe engine is carried over from the older model; This develops 92 BHP @3600 RPM and 218 Nm @ 1400-2600 RPM, it is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The claimed mileage is 14.95 KMPL.

The new 2.2-litre mHawk engine, which the Xylo shares with the Scorpio has an output of 122 BHP @ 4000 RPM and 280 Nm @ 2400-2800 RPM. It is mated to a new 5-speed manual transmission which ensures better shifts. The claimed mileage is 14.02 KMPL.

Equipment

New features added to the Xylo include a 60:40 split third row seat and new instrument cluster. Features like cruise control with steering-mounted buttons, ABSw tih EBD, dual-airbags, parking assist, tilt-adjustable steering, height and lumbar adjustable driver seat, electrically adjustable ORVMs, MID etc. have been carried over.
