2015 Volvo XC90 deliveries in India to start later this month
The all-new Volvo XC90 has garnered 266 pre-orders already, in just two months of its unveiling in India. Speaking on this, Tom von Bonsdorff, Managing Director, Volvo Auto India has said,”We already have a positive momentum, before we start deliveries of the new XC90, so we are on track for another good year at Volvo Cars. The XC90 paves the way for a portfolio of exciting new cars to come in the following years.” The 2015 Volvo XC90 India launch event took place in May earlier this year and the latest generation of the flagship Volvo SUV will be made available in two variants. The 2015 Volvo XC90 completely replaces the last generation XC90 from Volvo India’s product portfolio. The all-new model is built on Volvo’s much publicized modular Scalable Platform Architecture (SPA) and features the company’s latest design language. Here, in this post, we have put up all the important pointers from the 2015 Volvo XC90 India launch event –

Unwrapping the XC90
The current generation XC90 has been soldiering on for almost 12 years but failed to make the expected impact as compared to its rivals. For the 2015 XC90, the company has put in all its expertise and technical know-how into the flagship SUV to make it competent enough to rival the big boys of luxury SUV’s.
Exteriors:
The 2015 XC90 carries all-new styling, but is still familiar up front, with the company’s logo slashing diagonally through its prominent, upright grille. Like the concept, it carries T-Shaped LED running lights through the headlights. The company calls them the “Thor’s Hammer” design, an unique designation that we think is pretty refreshing. The car’s strong shoulder line moulds into the car’s long sculpted bonnet, giving the car an aggressive “THOR-LIKE” stance.
Interiors:
Now the exterior itself can be the reason for a lot of XC90’s flying off the shelf, but open the door and you see how far has this version of the XC90 come from its predecessor. The interiors get a clean, clutter-free design for the dashboard with the centre console being dominated by a large touch-screen armed with the latest infotainment software. This panel will control a majority of the functions in the car. For the comfort of the passengers, Volvo has added a new four-zone climate system with clean zone air purification system which offers individual settings for the first and the second row. Another impressive fact is the Bowers & Wilkins audio system with 19 speakers, 7 tweeters and 4 cone woofers.
Engine:
Coming to the engine, the India-spec 2015 Volvo XC90 gets the new 2.0-litre twin-turbo D5 diesel engine that has a maximum power of 225 hp at 4,250 rpm and a peak torque of 470 Nm between 1750 – 2500 rpm. The motor comes mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission and power is sent for all the four wheels thru an AWD system.
Safety Features:
Volvo traditionally packs the car with some great safety enhancements and the XC90 does not disappoint either. The luxury SUV comes loaded with the ‘Run-off road protection package’ that absorbs the energy between the seat and frame providing a cushion, and also the ‘Intersection braking system’ that stops the SUV if it tries to pull in front of an oncoming car, apart from the usual host of safety equipment on offer.
It may take a little time for the Volvo XC90 to really challenge the luxury SUV’s already on road but this is the best chance they will have to pull back some lost ground.
