The Japanese automobile manufacturer Nissan is reportedly planning a new treat for the Indian consumers. the company might launch its luxury brand Infiniti in India. In a conversation with Autocar Professional, Andy Palmer, Chief Planning Officer at Nissan Motor company, told that the brand’s entry in India is “inevitable” and also that it will be backed by a manufacturing plan.
The company has previously mentioned the topic several times in the past. It is expected that the brand’s lineup will be lead by the yet to be produced Q30 concept. The car was unveiled at Frankfurt in 2013 and is expected to enter the global market in 2016 which might include India. The car design has evolved from the fusion of a crossover, a coupe and a hatchback and is inspired by Etherea, Essence and Emerge-e concept vehicles.
Infiniti Q30 conceptInfiniti has its presence in almost 50 countries but is only produced in two production facilities in Japan and United States. The production in Europe and China is also to start soon. Andy Palmer also said that Nissan has a target of acquiring a 10% share in total four wheeler sales in Indian automobile market by the year 2016-17. For this the company will increase the number of dealer outlets from 160 to 200 which will further rise as high as 300. The company also has its bet on the reborn Datsun brand. The company is trying to push the sales higher and has already sold almost 7,000 units of the Datson GO. The company hopes that Datsun will soon account for as high as 50% of company’s sales in India given to the hard work involved.
Infiniti Q30 Concept (INFINITI USA)The Q30 concept will soon take a on road form to go for sale in the global and hopefully Indian market. But the road to success will not be easy as the car will have a number of worthy challengers. In India alone the Benz’s A-class and B-class alone account for Mercedes’ 20% sales by volume. Additionally the BMW X1 and Audi Q3 are also the biggies in the Compact Luxury car segment. While on the global platform the future war will also include Audi A3.
The Indian Car market has surely proven the potential underneath and thus has most of the major brands already launched or ready for launch. Recently Toyota also signaled possible launch of Lexus and now the Infiniti. Palmer also said that he wanted to see Nissan’s performance brand GT-R Nismo on the Indian roads.
