A few days back Yamaha launched the 2nd generation of their popular naked street bike – Yamaha FZ V2.0 and FZ-S V2.0 with the new Blue core engine and fuel injection technology. The latest news indicates that the company has decided to continue selling the older versions of the bike in a bid to offer a wider choice to the customers. Talking to PTI, Roy Kurian, Vice President, sales & marketing, Yamaha Motor India Sales, said that the old models will continue to be sold since the price difference between them and the respective new versions is around INR 5,300. The FZ V2.0 and the FZ-S V2.0 are priced at INR 76,250 and INR 78,250 (ex-showroom Delhi) respectively. The company claims that it would like to give their customers, a choice to buy whichever product suits their budget.
We think that this petty difference of 5000 odd rupees is something that shouldn’t pose a challenge on the budget to go for the version 2.0. The company has classified the V2.0 in a segment above than its respective predecessors. We think that the company wants to attract buyers and clear the stock of the first generation FZ and FZ-S under a pretense that the customer might have budget constraints. If a customer can shell out INR 71,000 – 73,000 for the older FZ than he can definitely put that extra INR 5,300 and go for the latest offerings! The Version 2.0 of the FZ series is powered by a 149 cc fuel injected engine which produces 13.1 PS and 12.8 Nm of torque. In comparison, the older FZ series is powered by a 153 cc motor which breaths via a carburetor to produce 14 PS and 13.6 Nm of torque. The new FZ and FZ-S are 3 kg lighter than the respective older models.
Yamaha says, despite the drop in the engine output, the FZ FI V2.0 series offers better performance. The company also claims that the fuel economy has been improved by 14% and the overall emission (Hydrocarbon + Nox) has been reduced by 33%. We wonder if Yamaha in addition to selling the older FZ models, will it continue the production as well! We will keep you posted on the same with further developments, until then do let us know what you think of the latest naked bikes Yamaha FZ-S V2.0 and FZ V2.0 !
