Did you know that most of the Maruti Suzuki cars are designed and developed partially or fully in Suzuki Motor Corporation Japan. Maruti Suzuki R&D in India does its part and Suzuki Japan does its part in the development of these cars. Also some of the components of these cars are sourced from Suzuki Japan and remaining are made locally in India. It is desirable to have high or complete Localization of components of cars for better inventory flow and cost perspective, but due to some practical problems and financial reasons, some of the parts are always sourced from Suzuki Japan. This may change in the year 2012. Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. is working on a completely made in India car by 2012. Sources also suggest that the car will be a small car in the segment of Maruti Alto and will bring a freshness and increased choice in small car segment. Hyundai is also working on Hyundai 800 CC car targeted for 2012 in India whereas General Motors is also exploring its possibilities of a small car for India. This will be an interesting turn of events in Auto Expo 2012 Delhi which will be full of concepts and new launches in the small car segments from renowned global players in Automobile market. We have out fingers crossed and eyes on the auto industry to bring you the happenings in India Auto Industry.
Maruti is also going to set up a full fledged R&D center at Rohtak in Haryana by investing Rs.1500 crores within next 4 years to reduce its dependency on Suzuki Japan’s R&D facility.
