It is not every day that one gets to witness a drag race competition between two cars which belong to two different market segments
In this post, we take a look at an unbelievable case of a drag race between a Maruti Swift and a Tata Altroz Racer. Swift is one of the most successful hatchbacks in the country. It is currently on sale in its 4th-generation avatar. Still, its popularity is incredible. On the other hand, the Tata Altroz Racer represents the sporty iteration of the regular Altroz. It possesses a powerful turbo petrol mill. For now, let us see which one comes out on top in a classic drag race.
Maruti Swift vs Tata Altroz Racer Drag Race
We are able to come across this enticing race courtesy of autocar_india on Instagram. The visuals capture the two hatchbacks at the starting line. On the count of three, the two drivers accelerate hard. Interestingly, the Swift gets a better launch and zips ahead of the Altroz Racer. However, the most shocking part was that it was never overtaken by the Altroz Racer despite the latter’s power advantage. Since the drag strip came to an end by the time the Altroz gained momentum, the Swift emerged as the clear winner. No wonder, even the second round had similar results.
Specs Comparison
The latest Maruti Swift possesses an efficient 1.2-litre 3-cylinder Z12E naturally aspirated petrol mill, which churns out a decent 82 PS and 112 Nm of peak power and torque, respectively. There are options to choose between a 5-speed manual and an AMT automatic transmission. The mileage figures are 24.8 km/l and 25.75 km/l, respectively. On the other hand, the Tata Altroz Racer draws power from a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine, which generates a familiar 120 PS and 170 Nm of peak power and torque, respectively. It is available with a 6-speed manual transmission.

My View
Now, this might seem a bit strange to many. Nevertheless, we must understand that the standard drag racing strip is around 400 m long. Hence, it is a relatively shorter distance. As a result, the car with an impactful low end and initial acceleration generally wins such events. The real power of a turbo petrol mill comes at high speeds and high RPMs. That is the reason why Swift was able to win this race despite being significantly low on specifications. In any case, it provided a great piece of content for the netizens.
