It looks like the Dark Edition season is up and thriving as more carmakers embrace this seemingly popular trend
We got the opportunity to experience the Citroen Basalt Dark Edition in the flesh recently. Basalt is a relatively affordable coupe SUV. The French auto giant has been trying to leverage the popularity of SUVs. This is a trend which is observed not just in India, but across the globe. In the last few years, the sales of SUVs in every segment have been rising rapidly. As a consequence, Citroen solely offers SUVs in India. However, to break the monotony, the Basalt is offered as a coupe SUV. Let us take a look at the details here.
Citroen Basalt Dark Edition
As is the case with most Dark Edition models, there are no concrete customisations either to the exterior or the interior of the Basalt. However, the minute tweaks to the design and colour palette result in a more sporty and bold appearance. On the outside, the Citroen Basalt Dark Edition gets a completely black treatment on the Chevron logo at the front, along with red inserts on the sides of the fog lamps, with a rugged contrasting scuff plate. On the sides, it gets the Dark Edition badge on the door panels and a red highlight on the C-pillar.
Similarly, on the inside, there are dark elements to offer a sporty theme. This includes the black dashboard, seats and door panels. However, to make things a bit more exciting, there are red insertions are various places, including on the seats and stitching fabric. Also, the seats get Dark Edition lettering engraved to signify this unique model. Interestingly, there are no additional features on offer even in this Dark Edition trim. This variant bears a premium of Rs 19,500 over the standard model. The prices start at Rs 12.80 lakh, ex-showroom.
My View
The sales for Citroen have not been all that great ever since the brand launched in India back in 2021. Over the last few years, it has been trying to woo customers with new products. However, due to stiff competition in almost every major segment, it hasn’t been able to attract all that many new buyers. Nevertheless, with special edition models like these, perhaps people can take the plunge and opt for Citroen products. We shall keep an eye out for how well the consumers embrace this trim.
