The global flagship electric SUV from the Korean auto giant has arrived in India
The Kia EV9 luxury SUV has finally been launched in India at a price of a whopping Rs 1.30 Crore, ex-showroom. Note that the Korean car marque comes in a single fully-loaded GT-Line AWD avatar. It is an imported model, which explains why the price tag is so hefty. In fact, it has bagged the title of the World Car of the Year 2024. In any case, the EV9 has been immensely popular in the international markets. Customers and critics alike have taken a liking to the best that Kia has to offer. In India, Kia already sells its EV6 crossover. Finally, the top-of-the-line electric SUV is also here to expand its portfolio even further.
Kia EV9 Launched in India
As a part of the media drive, I got the opportunity to spend some time with the large EV. The first impressions are rather exciting. On the outside, the front section bears a broad fascia flanked by the colossal LED DRLs on the extreme edges. The LED headlamps are embodied between the DRLs vertically, indicating the latest design language from Kia, which I really appreciate. Underneath the bumper, there are rugged silver accents for an adventurous vibe. The side section reveals the massive dimensions of the SUV. I particularly like the dual-tone alloy wheels with aero components. Completing the appearance at the rear is a shark fin antenna, a roof-mounted spoiler, vertically positioned LED taillamps and a prominent bumper with a silver skid plate.
On the inside, the Kia EV9 showcases world-class tech and convenience amenities. In fact, I feel it rivals the German luxury carmakers in this regard. The quality of materials and overall cabin layout look ultra-modern. There is no shortage of the latest safety, connectivity and convenience functionalities either. For instance, I liked the Trinity display on the dashboard – a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch infotainment display and a 5-inch display in the middle. Apart from that, the EV offers a Meridian Hi-Fi audio system, 10 airbags, dual sunroof, drive controls, Level 2 ADAS with 27 features, touchscreen control for rear seat massage, second-row heating and ventilation, a large centre armrest for the second row and tons of storage spaces. I certainly got the vibe of sitting inside a premium luxury vehicle.
Specs
Based on the familiar E-GMP architecture, the Kia EV9 carries a massive 99.8 kWh battery pack, which offers a range of 561 km on a single charge. The dual-motor all-wheel-drive configuration allows a maximum power of 379 hp and a peak torque of 700 Nm. The ultra-fast 800-volt architecture allows fast charging capabilities, taking just 24 minutes to go from 10% to 80%. With the Vehicle to Load (V2L) function, you can even charge your external devices. With a price tag of over Rs 1.30 Crore, it will go up against many high-end luxury cars. In any case, we shall bring a detailed drive review soon. Also, it will be intriguing to see how well the customers embrace it.
