The new-generation Renault Duster has already been launched in the international markets, and we will see it in India in the coming months
Nissan is planning a Hyundai Creta rival, which will be based on the same platform as the upcoming Renault Duster. Nissan has been doing fairly well on the sales charts in India. However, it doesn’t have all that many products in its portfolio. At present, the vast majority of the volumes stems from the Magnite. However, it exports the Magnite to many countries and the overall production numbers are dominated by exports. Going forward, it wants to offer a mid-size SUV to expand its market share.
Nissan to Use Renault Duster’s Platform
We know that Nissan and Renault often sell badge-engineered products in India. The Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger are the prime examples of this practice. We have seen such products in the last few years as well. Interestingly, it looks like this trend is going to continue. Renault has launched the new Duster in many international markets already. Similarly, Nissan will most likely use the same platform to spawn a Hyundai Creta-rivalling mid-size SUV in India soon. This will make this segment even more competitive than it already is. Other details will emerge with the passage of time.
Nissan’s Plans in India
Nissan recently announced its ambitious and exciting plans for the Indian market. It said that it plans to launch 2 new models for India – a 7-seater B-MPV and a 5-seater C-SUV. The latter will reportedly carry inspiration from the iconic Patrol. These are part of 4 products that it wants to launch for the Indian customers by FY26. At the recent Global Product Showcase Event in Yokohama, Japan, Nissan unveiled plans for a 7-seater B-MPV and a 5-seater C-SUV. Clearly, the Japanese car marque wants to expand its footprint by increasing its portfolio in India.
My View
As the Indian automobile market continues to grow, there will be opportunities for the existing players, as well as new carmakers, to offer enticing products to be a part of this growth trajectory in the coming times. Nissan already exports most of what it manufactures in India. This makes India its manufacturing hub for the world. With more products coming up, Nissan’s domestic, as well as international business, is bound to pick up. Let us keep an eye out for more details in the times to come.
