Toyota offers some of the most rugged SUVs on the planet, which often boast high safety ratings
In this post, we take a look at the details of the ANCAP safety test of the Toyota Prado. Prado is an iconic name in the global portfolio of the Japanese car marque. It has been around since 1990. Introduced as a smaller and more comfort-focused iteration of the Land Cruiser, it gained immense prominence among various international markets over the years. In fact, even today, people love to own the Prado, which is a testament to its appeal. For now, let us take a look at the details of its safety test on the ANCAP.

This video of the entire test comes to us courtesy of ANCAP Safety Ratings on YouTube. The visuals capture the large SUV undergoing rigorous crash tests from the front and side to determine the impact on the body shell and dummy passengers placed inside the cabin. In the Adult Occupant Protection category, the SUV managed to score a healthy 34.39 points out of 40 (85%). On the other hand, the Toyota Prado managed to secure an impressive 43.62 points out of 49 (89%) in the Child Occupant Protection section. These are pretty solid numbers.
In addition to this, the ANCAP even conducts tests to determine how safe a vehicle is for the other road users, along with the kind of safety amenities on offer. As a consequence, in the Vulnerable Road User Protection segment, the Prado bagged 53.38 points out of a possible 63 (84%), while in the Safety Assist department, it scored 14.83 points out of 18 (82%). All these are healthy numbers which grant the SUV a full 5-star safety rating. Note that the car buyers are conscious about such stats and even make decisions based on this criterion.
ANCAP Safety Rating | Toyota Prado |
Adult Occupant Protection | 34.39 / 40 pts |
Child Occupant Protection | 43.62 / 49 pts |

My View
We know that the latest car buyers, even in India, take into consideration the safety ratings of a vehicle before making a purchase decision. That is a critical factor to ensure and improve road safety. The fact that these traditional car marques often produce cars which are designed to be extremely safe is a benchmark for every carmaker. Let us hope that more automakers produce cars with high safety ratings so that they can save the lives of the occupants in terrible instances.
