The sweet relationship between the American President and Elon Musk is not a secret to anyone
Despite being vocal against EVs, Donald Trump recently praised Tesla cars parked outside the White House in the presence of Elon Musk. Ever since Trump assumed office, he has been expressing his concerns with regards to promoting EVs. In fact, he has imposed tariffs and revoked many subsidies on electric cars. Hence, his lack of trust in EVs to save the environment is quite public. On the contrary, it is clear that he is good friends with Elon Musk also. We know that Elon Musk is responsible for the electric revolution in the automobile world for over a decade now.
Donald Trump Promotes Tesla Cars in White House
We are able to catch the visuals of this latest case courtesy of Cars For You on YouTube. The video showcases Donald Trump talking about Tesla cars in front of the media. That is quite unusual and even ethically questionable. You see, it is not at all common for any senior government official, let alone the president, to promote a consumer product in public. However, Trump doesn’t seem to be bothered by such traditions and constraints. Tesla delivered 5 EVs to the White House and parked them on a driveway.
The U.S. President personally inspected them. Earlier, he had said that he is planning to buy a Tesla car displaying his support for Elon Musk. On this occasion, he even sat inside a Model S with Musk sitting beside him. In fact, he said, “The one I like is that one, and I want the same colour”, pointing to the red Tesla Model S. However, he was also impressed by the design of the Cybertruck. He was quoted saying, “As soon as I saw it, I said, ‘That is the coolest design'”. Clearly, he is promoting Tesla cars which can have an impact on the image of the brand, as well as its stock price which has been sinking for the past few weeks.
My View
This has to be one of the most bizarre instances involving a sitting President in the U.S. for a long time. Note that in 2017, Trump counselor Kellyanne Conway told Americans to buy from Ivanka Trump’s clothing line, for which she received a warning from a government ethics office. She promised to never do it again. However, on this occasion, Donald Trump openly praised Tesla cars, clearly showcasing his bias and support for Elon Musk and Tesla. It remains to be seen if anyone challenges his decision.
