The monthly sales figures for February 2025 demonstrate an interesting trend
For the month of February 2025, Maruti Fronx emerged as the highest-selling vehicle in the country, while the Tata Punch barely managed to stay in the top 10. This is particularly intriguing since Punch gained the shocking title of the highest-selling car in 2024, beating the stalwarts from Maruti Suzuki, which have held that spot for decades. To see such a huge fall on monthly sales can be a matter of concern, particularly if this trend remains so in the coming months.
Maruti Fronx and Tata Punch Sales Figures
As per the official data, the largest carmaker sold an impressive 21,461 units of the Fronx in February 2025. In comparison to the same month a year ago, where it sold just 14,168 units, this is a colossal 51% jump on a y-o-y basis. On the contrary, the Tata Punch appeared at the 10th spot by selling 14,559 units, which is 21% lower than what was sold in the same month last year (18,438). Hence, both these vehicles have experienced a huge disparity in the monthly sales figures on a yearly basis.
Apart from that, another key product on this list is the Hyundai Creta. After the Maruti Fronx and WagonR, the Creta has been able to secure the 3rd spot which is mighty impressive. It sold a whopping 16,317 units, which marks a healthy 7% increase over February 2024 when it sold 15,276 units. Also, the only other non-Maruti vehicle on this list is the Tata Nexon at the 7th place. In February, the Indian automobile sold a decent 15,349 units of the Nexon in comparison to 14,395 units in the same month last year. The list of the top 10 highest-selling cars in India last month is as follows:
Car | Sales |
Maruti Fronx | 21,461 |
Maruti WagonR | 19,879 |
Hyundai Creta | 16,317 |
Maruti Swift | 16,269 |
Maruti Baleno | 15,480 |
Maruti Brezza | 15,392 |
Tata Nexon | 15,349 |
Maruti Ertiga | 14,868 |
Maruti Dzire | 14,694 |
Tata Punch | 14,559 |
My View
The sales charts are the true reflection of how the customers are embracing a particular car model. At the end of the day, the sales are the true validation that any carmaker seeks. The fact that Maruti Suzuki has been dominating this list for the longest time means that people still love its products, after-sales services and widespread network connections despite so many new carmakers arriving at our shores in the last few years. It will be interesting to see for how long the Indo-Japanese car marque will be able to maintain its top position, especially as we enter into the electric mobility era.
