The Indian EV industry has been expanding rapidly with new carmakers appearing on the scene to be a part of this burgeoning space
In this post, we are comparing the Vinfast VF3 and Tata Tiago EV on the basis of specs, design, dimensions, features, safety, and more. Vinfast, for the uninitiated, is a Vietnamese carmaker. It has been in the process of establishing its presence in some of the major economies of the world. This includes countries like the U.S., outside a few nations in South-East Asia. Clearly, it sees India as a great opportunity to mark its presence which is why it demonstrated its products at the recently concluded Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025. On the other hand, the Tata Tiago EV is based on the ICE iteration of the Tiago. It is a great option for all those who want to experience electric mobility without having to spend a fortune. Let us compare the two thoroughly.
Vinfast VF3 vs Tata Tiago EV – Specs
Now, Vinfast has announced that it will bring the pint-sized electric SUV, the VF3, into our market by next year. People were already comparing it to the Maruti Jimny at the expo due to its compact dimensions and overall stance. It carries a decent-sized 18.64 kWh lithium-ion battery pack which is good for a range of 210 km on a single charge as per the generous NEDC cycle. This configuration allows 32 kW (43.5 PS) and 110 Nm of maximum power and torque, respectively. This should be enough to ensure that there is adequate performance to run daily errands. This peppy powertrain enables a 0 to 50 km/h acceleration time of just 5.3 seconds. With a fast charger, the battery can be juiced up from 10% to 70% in a mere 36 minutes. For urban city commutes, these are acceptable figures.
On the other hand, the Tata Tiago EV also comes with a decent setup. There are two battery pack options for the customers – a 19.2 kWh LFP and a 24 kWh LFP unit. These result in a power and torque output of 61 hp / 110 Nm and 75 hp / 114 Nm, respectively. Again, these are close to what the ICE trim outputs as well. However, what will interest the buyers is the range of 223 km with the smaller battery and 293 km with the larger battery pack on a single charge. These are based on the MIDC testing. This is certainly higher than the VF3. Even in real-world conditions, one can expect a range of 180 km to 220 km on a single charge. The Indian auto giant offers an 8-year or 1,60,000 km warranty. Also, the battery and electric motor have an IP67 rating for water and dust protection.

Design and Dimensions
This is where the two EVs differ significantly. The Vinfast VF3 showcases a great balance between modern and retro charm. At the front, it gets an old-school silhouette with things like a black area with a chrome belt which culminates into the rectangular and traditional headlamps on either side, an upright bonnet, and a simple bumper down below with rugged black components. Moving to the sides displays wheel arches which are constructed out of matte black material which holds the alloy wheels, black side pillars and the floating roof effect inform the new-age theme. Finally, the tail end consists of an upright boot lid, black bumper and compact taillamps on a black panel which runs the width of the body. All in all, the EV looks butch despite its humble dimensions.
On the contrary, since the Tata Tiago EV is based on a regular ICE version, it bears a more familiar appearance with normal dimensions. This includes a sleek black panel between the headlamps at the front with a Tata logo in the middle, a sporty bumper with LED lighting on the fog lamp housings, a unique design pattern on the lower half of the bumper and a sloping bonnet. On the sides, there are black B-pillars, aero-optimized dual-tone alloy wheels, and a characteristic crease on the door panels. At the rear, we get to see recognizable compact taillamps and a sporty bumper. Overall, both these cars carry their individual appearances which will attract a wide range of potential customers.
Dimensions (in mm) | Vinfast VF3 | Tata Tiago EV |
Length | 3,190 | 3,769 |
Width | 1,679 | 1,677 |
Height | 1,652 | 1,536 |

My View
Now choosing between these two compelling propositions will depend on a lot of things which are not clear yet. For instance, we are yet to know how much the Vinfast VF3 will cost. Also, the final confirmation regarding the powertrain and features list is also pending. Still, we expect all the aforementioned amenities to be present in the car. On the other hand, the Tata Tiago EV is an established car. If you don’t want to experiment with a new brand, sticking to the Indian automobile giant makes sense. In any case, I shall update this section once more details emerge.
