Drag race is a common method to test the straight-line performance of two vehicles
In this post, we are discussing a drag race between the new Maruti Dzire and the old Dzire. Currently, the Maruti Dzire is in its 4th-generation avatar. Dzire has traditionally been based on the Swift. However, this time around, the largest car marque in the country has deviated from the route and offered distinct design elements on the Dzire to break away any Swift connection. Apart from that, in the latest model, the Dzire also has a new powertrain. Hence, it will be interesting to see how the two versions of the Dzire from different eras compete.
New Maruti Dzire vs Old Dzire – Drag Race
This video stems from Vishuchaudhary on YouTube. The host has the last-gen and new-gen models together. For the first round, the two drivers switch off the AC and traction control. On the count of three, they accelerate hard. Interestingly, the old Dzire took the lead from the beginning and maintained it throughout the race. For the second round, the old Dzire had the AC on to give it the new-gen model some advantage. However, the old Dzire emerged victorious in the second round as well. Thereafter, they decided to switch the AC and traction control ON on the old Dzire and had it off on the new model. Still, there was no difference in the outcome. The old Maruti Dzire was the undisputed winner of this race.
Specs Comparison
The new Maruti Dzire comes with a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder Z12E naturally aspirated petrol engine with mild hybrid technology which outputs a decent 82 PS and 112 Nm of peak power and torque, respectively. This engine pairs with a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT gearbox. On the other hand, the old Dzire used to have a 1.2-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine which is good for a much higher 90 PS and 113 Nm of peak power and torque, respectively. There are options of selecting between a 5-speed manual or an AMT automatic gearbox. Hence, the power of the 4-cylinder engine is evident in the race.

My View
Drag race events have gained immense popularity on social media in the last few years. People love to see two cars go head-to-head on an open stretch of the road. However, I must advise our readers to never perform such activities on public roads with your own cars. Generally, a lot of precautions must be taken to conduct such activities. To ensure your safety and the health of your car, you should ideally stay away from such stunts.
