MG revealed the Majestor SUV at the recently concluded Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 which will sit above the Gloster in its Indian portfolio
In this post, I am comparing the newly revealed MG Majestor and Toyota Fortuner on the basis of specs, features, design, etc. MG has been focusing on expanding its EV portfolio in India for a long time now. However, at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, it showcased its new flagship ICE car, the Majestor. While it was thought that we would get to witness the new Gloster, the British carmaker surprised us with the Majestor. Note that it is based on the D90 Max which is sold in Saudi Arabia. Hence, we can get a clear idea of what it will offer. On the other hand, the Toyota Fortuner is the most popular 7-seat off-roading SUV in the country. Let us compare the two side by side to experience the strengths of each of these.
MG Majestor vs Toyota Fortuner – Specs
Let us commence with what powers the two gigantic SUVs. Even though MG has not officially revealed the specs, we can expect it to carry the same engine and transmission options as the Gloster. Remember, Gloster is available in two states of tune with the 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbo diesel engine – single turbo and twin-turbo – making 163 PS / 375 Nm and 218 PS / 480 Nm of maximum power and torque, respectively. Both these trims use an 8-speed automatic transmission. In the higher variants, the SUV boasts hardcore 4×4 capabilities. In the same vein, I expect the Majestor to be on offer solely with the more powerful state of tune of this same engine. Still, we will need to wait for the official details when the car launches.
On the other hand, the Toyota Fortuner continues to be offered with both, petrol and diesel engine options. This includes a 2.7-litre petrol mill which produces a humble 164 hp and 245 Nm and a 2.8-litre turbo diesel mill which churns out a massive 201 hp and 420 Nm (500 Nm with automatic transmission) of peak power and torque, respectively. One can choose between either a 5-speed manual, a 6-speed manual or an automatic transmission. The higher diesel trims also get dedicated 4×4 hardware to ensure that the owners are able to take the SUV to just about any corner of the country. In fact, Fortuner is one of the most capable off-roading machines out there. Hence, both these are relatively closely matched in this regard.

MG Majestor vs Toyota Fortuner – Interior, Features and Safety
This is one area where the two SUVs differ significantly. We know that MG makes some of the most feature-laden vehicles in India. In fact, it is a pioneer when it comes to connectivity and the latest gadgets and gizmos. Since this is true for its every model on sale, it is particularly prominent with its flagship SUV. Unfortunately, at the auto expo, MG didn’t shed light on the interior of the Majestor. Hence, our reference comes from the international model. Its top amenities will include things like:

- Wireless Charging
- 12-speaker Premium Audio System

On the other hand, Toyota has always been criticized for lagging behind the times when it comes to offering a premium cabin and the latest bells and whistles. Sure, the interior components look like they have been built to last a lifetime, still, the wow factor is missing from the cabin of its cars. Unfortunately, that is true for the Fortuner as well. Having said that, the main highlights are:
- Smart Playcast Touchscreen Audio
- Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
- Power Steering with Paddle Shifts
- Front Clearance Sonar with MID Indication

Design and Dimensions
This is yet another key aspect which will pull in a lot of buyers. With large SUVs, people want their vehicles to have an imposing road presence. In all honesty, both these SUVs will have their strengths. The new MG Majestor carries a strong presence, particularly at the front. This includes sleek LED DRLs on the extreme edges with a slim belt connecting them and a colossal rectangular grille area with a sturdy skid plate towards the lower end. The main headlamp cluster is impressively stacked on the extreme edges of the bumper vertically while the lower part gets sturdy elements. On the sides, we are able to see black side pillars, faux roof rails, massive alloy wheels, chunky wheel arches with matte black materials and healthy side steps to enhance the ingress and egress characteristics. Finally, the tail end comprises of a massive connected LED taillamp panel which runs the width of the SUV, a sporty bumper, a roof-mounted spoiler, dual exhaust pipes and a solid skid plate section. All in all, the SUV definitely will make heads turn.
On the other hand, the Toyota Fortuner also carries an imposing road presence. The front fascia contains narrow LED headlamps with integrated LED DRLs with chrome surrounds along with a massive grille in the middle. Lower down, we see colossal fog lamp housings on the edges of the bumper and a sturdy skid plate to protect the components on off-tarmac excursions. The side section encompasses black side pillars, chrome belt running underneath the window frames, roof rails, massive wheel arches with solid cladding, elegant 18-inch alloy wheels and tough side steps for the convenience of the passengers. At the rear, we get to witness a roof-mounted spoiler, shark fin antenna, slim LED taillamps connected by a chrome panel, and a rugged bumper. Both these SUVs have their distinct identities.

Price Comparison
We are yet to know the prices of the MG Majestor. Still, for reference, the Gloster retails between Rs 39.57 lakh and Rs 44.74 lakh, ex-showroom. It is clear that the Majestor will be positioned above the Gloster. Hence, you can expect prices between Rs 45 lakh and Rs 55 lakh, ex-showroom. On the other hand, the Toyota Fortuner bears a price tag from Rs 33.43 lakh to Rs 51.94 lakh, ex-showroom. Note that since the Fortuner is offered in petrol trim, the starting prices are low.
Price (ex-sh.) | MG Majestor (exp.) | Toyota Fortuner |
Base Model | Rs 45 lakh | Rs 33.43 lakh |
Top Model | Rs 55 lakh | Rs 51.94 lakh |
My View
Choosing between these two compelling propositions can be quite tough. This is especially true since most details pertaining to MG Majestor are still scarce. Once those are available, we will be able to make a much more informed decision. Still, it will essentially boil down to your personal preference. If you want a reliable workhorse and can do without the latest gadgets and gizmos, the Fortuner makes more sense. However, if you want the absolute modern amenities inside the cabin, the Majestor should be your pick. In any case, you can’t go wrong with either of these.
