The Vietnamese car marque has been trying to set up shop in India for the last couple of years
VinFast has revealed its electric vehicles for the Indian market at the ongoing Bharat Mobility Expo 2025. Note that VinFast was in the process of acquiring a manufacturing facility on our soil. In fact, it was also in talks to buy Ford’s Chennai plant. However, that deal didn’t go through. After the Indian government’s EV policy, VinFast pledged $500 million to establish its production facility in India. That is the minimum requirement for a foreign carmaker as per the guidelines of this policy. With, it has displayed its products at the auto expo to gauge the response of the visitors and media.
VinFast VF3
Arguably the most exciting VinFast product at the Bharat Mobility Expo 2025 was the VF3. It is a micro electric SUV which measures just 3,190 mm in length. Unsurprisingly, it boasts a wheelbase of a mere 2,075 mm. The tiny 3-door EV looks unusually butch for its size. At the front, it has a simple layout with a rectangular panel between the basic headlamps with a chrome strip running across the width. Down below, the bumper is plain with black materials. Moving to the sides reveals chunky squarish wheel arches with black cladding, black side pillars and black ORVMs. At the rear, the VF3 houses a black panel and a chrome belt which joins the tiny taillamps. I must admit, the 16-inch dual-tone alloy wheels and the shark fin antenna point towards modernity.
On the inside, the cabin bears a minimalistic design theme with an appealing layout. The steering is devoid of any buttons but it gets a flat bottom. Apart from that, the large free-standing touchscreen infotainment display oozes tech features, while the rotary dials for HVAC and the textured dashboard highlight practicality. The door panels are slightly basic. Other amenities include Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a panoramic sunroof, Wireless charging, keyless entry, 285-litre boot space and more. Hence, despite being a tiny car, it boasts tons of new-age amenities to pamper the occupants.
Specs
The VF3 is powered by a 32 kW (43.5 PS) electric motor which powers the rear wheels and delivers a decent 110 Nm of maximum torque. Due to its compact dimensions, the acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h comes up in a mere 5.3 seconds. This EV carries an 18.64 kWh lithium-ion battery pack which is good for a range of 210 km on a single charge as per the generous NEDC cycle. With a fast charger, the battery can be juiced up from 10% to 70% in a mere 36 minutes.
