Keeping in mind the latest emission norms, many places in India levy a ban on diesel cars that are older than 10 years
In this post, we will discuss a way to save your diesel cars from the 10-year ban. We know that emissions is a crucial topic in today’s automobile industry. In fact, it is not just restricted to India but is a global concern. To tackle global warming and vehicular pollution, every nation has some policies and measures in place. In fact, automobile companies have announced plans to reach carbon neutrality in the coming years. Also, that is the premise of electric cars, to begin with. Consequently, many states and cities in India implemented the rule which prohibits using a diesel car after 10 years of ownership.
How to Save Diesel Cars from the 10-Year Ban?
Needless to say, this is quite a controversial decision since it doesn’t take into consideration the actual condition of the car at the time of completing 10 years. Some people take extremely good care of their cars and the pollution levels might be under control even up to 15 years. Hence, it received a huge backlash from car owners and other people in power. In any case, the government has come up with yet another solution in addition to reviewing this policy altogether.
If you visit the government’s Parivahan app, you can get access to a feature via which you can apply for a conversion of your old car into an electric car. The option is pretty straightforward and can be located on the app easily. Once you apply for the conversion, you will need to enter the OTP on your registered mobile number. This is a great way to keep using your diesel car even after completing 10 years. You can consult your local RTO for more details in this regard.
My View
I must admit people were furious about this rule since most of them purchased diesel cars to ensure longevity. Also, diesel cars charge a premium in price which can only be offset if they are used for many years. That is the only way to justify its high price tag. In recent times, we have seen many carmakers simply ditch the diesel mill from their portfolio entirely. Maruti Suzuki is a prime example of this. However, solutions like these (conversions) could be a great way to bridge the gap between the existing ICE cars and futuristic EVs.
