The Toyota Hilux Rangga SUV uses the IMV platform which also underpins the Innova Crysta and Fortuner
The Toyota Hilux Rangga SUV is slated to go on sale in Indonesia next year (2025). Note that it is based on the Rangga pickup which is a no-nonsense product. The Japanese carmaker is known for making rugged and reliable vehicles which are mighty durable. While we have seen high-end cars like the Land Cruisers and Fortuners, the Hilux Rangga is geared more towards the mass market. While there are no reports of it making it to our shores, we will certainly get a more affordable Fortuner.
Toyota Hilux Rangga SUV Could Be Affordable Fortuner
The images have been doing rounds on the internet. Note that it was previewed a few months ago. However, Toyota Indonesia has confirmed that it will go into production with minor changes. The exterior looks extremely solid and sturdy. This includes a sporty front fascia with black materials on the grille and sleek LED headlamps with LED DRLs and an adventurous bumper with an upright stance. On the sides, there are barely any creases and oozes a utilitarian demeanour. In fact, the black cladding extends all the way across the body. It even gets 16-inch alloy wheels. On the top, there are functional roof rails and the rear overhang is quite long. All in all, the road presence of this SUV is definitely imposing.
Just like on the outside, the interior is functional and solid as well. These are not necessarily the most modern or flashy. But they will serve the purpose of being a reliable workhorse. The main highlights inside the cabin include air conditioning, a touchscreen infotainment system, dual front airbags and more. Mainly, the focus will be to offer a rugged cabin which would last a lifetime. In terms of specifications, it could use a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol or a 2.4-litre turbo diesel mill with 5-speed manual and automatic transmission options. Its wheelbase will be 2,750 mm, which is the same as the Fortuner.
My View
In the last few months, we have witnessed Toyota offer interesting products across various international markets. In India, we are expecting the next-generation Fortuner along with a more affordable iteration. Whether or not it will be the Hilux Rangga SUV, remains to be seen. In any case, we are excited to see that the well-known IMV platform is still capable of underpinning new models. Let us keep an eye out for more details in this regard.
