People love to create ‘desi’ iterations of luxury cars regardless of how non-talented they are
In this post, I describe a Taarzan The Wonder Car lookalike based on a humble Maruti 800. Now, Taarzan is arguably the most popular movie car in the country. In fact, there have been many instances of prominent car shops trying to restore the original model after being in a dilapidated condition for a long time. Recently, we saw a completely restored version of it. On the other hand, the Maruti 800 was the lifeline of Indian car buyers back in the 1990s and 2000s. Hence, no wonder we see someone use it as a base to create a Taarzan replica. Here are the details.
Taarzan The Wonder Car Based on Maruti 800
This post stems from md_asgar366 on Instagram. The visuals capture a rather unrecognizable vehicle which clearly indicates that it has been tempered with quite a lot. The creator has painted the vehicle in blue colour to make it resemble the actual Taarzan The Wonder Car. Unfortunately, apart from the colour, there isn’t much likeliness to the famed car. However, I don’t want to undermine the efforts that must’ve gone into creating this customized car. Still, the final outcome leaves much to be desired.
It is clear that the Maruti 800 is the donor model. The man has removed the rear doors and it looks like this has been converted into a two-seater car. Also, the work on the exterior has been extreme with sharp body panels with the aim to catch the essence of the original sports car. It is hilarious to see such a compact replica of the Taarzan due to the smaller dimensions of the donor Maruti 800. As a consequence, the Taarzan influence doesn’t really shine through at all. Even the piddly tyres confirm its humble credentials. All in all, this is far from a decent replica but the efforts are worth the applause.
My View
I have come across many instances of some design houses going for replicas of super-expensive vehicles using mass-market cars. However, this has to be among the most questionable projects I have come across in a while. Still, I shall try to keep bringing such ambitious attempts from car modification houses in times to come.
