Toyota Fortuner 2.5 litre engine variant has been launched in India. Available only in TRD Sportivo trim.
Back in 2009, when Toyota launched its premium SUV, the Fortuner, nobody had thought that it would go on to become one of the most sought-after SUVs in India. The SUV has been doing really well since it was launched and none of its competitors are anywhere close to returning the kind of sales numbers it achieves. In its attempt to further boost the sales and to draw in buyers with the lower price segment, the carmaker has just launched a 2.5 litre diesel engine model of its high selling SUV. Here, we’ve come up with all the Toyota Fortuner 2.5 litre variant details.
Price
The new Toyota Fortuner 2.5L TRD Sportivo goes on sale in two variants, which are:
- 2.5 4×2 Manual: Rs 24,44,200
- 2.5 4×2 Automatic: Rs 25,44,200
Rivals
At this price point, the Fortuner 2.5 is aimed squarely at lower variants of the Hyundai Santa Fe, Ssangyong Rexton, and the Chevrolet Captiva.
Features
The new Fortuner 2.5 litre engine variant, which has gone on sale only in the TRD Sportivo trim, comes with following features –
- Updated radiator grille
- Body stripe
- Dual tone front and rear bumper spoilers
- Roof spoiler at the rear
- TRD Sportivo insignia
- TRD exhaust tip
As with most entry-level variants, the Fortuner 2.5 misses out on some features that are available on the higher variants. The Fortuner 2.5 does NOT get – auto levelling headlamps, leather upholstery, four spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel with faux wood inserts and faux silver inserts. The biggest omission however, is of cruise control.
The new model goes on sale in two exterior paint options -Super White and Silver Metallic.
Specification
The 2.5-litre engine that powers the new Toyota Fortuner 2.5 is essentially the same motor that powers the Innova. However, the boffins at TKM have tinkered with the engine to optimize its power output. The 4-cylinder, 2,494cc, DOHC engine now produces a higher max power of 144 PS at 3,400 rpm (vs 102 PS on the Innova) and a peak torque of 343 Nm between 1,600-2,800 rpm (vs just 200 Nm on the Innova). In comparison, the bigger 3.0-litre engine has a max power of 171PS and peak torque of 343Nm.
