The electric mobility theme is playing out quite impressively in the public transportation space in addition to the passenger car segment
The Switch EiV12 and E1 low-floor electric buses have been launched. Note that the EiV12 is for the Indian market, while the E1 is for Europe and GCC. Switch Mobility Ltd. is a subsidiary of Ashok Leyland and part of Hinduja Group. In fact, the electric bus was launched by Mr. Nitin Gadkari, Minister for Road, Transport and Highways. Both EiV12 and E1 share common design philosophies and EV architecture. Let us glance at the details of this exciting news.
Switch Launches EiV12 and E1 Electric Buses
The Switch EiV12 embodies amenities for the utmost comfort and safety of the passengers in addition to the latest technology. The air suspension allows the kneeling mechanism for easy ingress and egress. Moreover, the automated wheelchair ramp and dedicated spaces make it accessible for differently abled passengers. There are also 5 CCTV cameras with no blind spots for the safety of the passengers. Also, it gets 5 dedicated seats for women. To enjoy the panoramic view of the surroundings, the Switch EiV12 electric bus gets 60% glass area. The ITMS delivers real-time fleet tracking and health monitoring data for seamless operation. The bus has a capacity of 39 seats in addition to the wheelchair parking and driver.
If you think, this was impressive, the specifications are even more exciting. The electric bus has a >400 kWh IP67-rated Lithium-ion battery pack which is good for a range of 314 km on a single charge. Using the CCS-2 DC fast charger, the battery gets juiced up in <2 hours. That is extremely important to run the fleet. Its dimensions are 12,000 mm x 2,550 mm x 3,500 mm (LxWxH) with a wheelbase of 6,320 mm and a floor height of 400 mm. The electric bus uses 22.5-inch tyres and the Permanent Magnet Synchronous AC Motor makes 235 kW maximum power and 140 kW continuous power. Note that the Europe-spec Switch E1 can carry 93 passengers including the standees.
