Earlier this week, Mercedes-Benz released a batch of images showing off the 2015 Mercedes-Benz CLS Class facelift. While the 2015 CLS has been spied on many instances bearing heavy camouflage, this is the first time Mercedes-Benz has given us a glimpse of the car in its bare form. Internally called C218, the new CLS gets a few cosmetic updates to the exterior, which is inspired by the new C-Class, to set it apart from its predecessor. The car though, retains the overall design and its unique roofline which makes it easily identifiable as a CLS. The updated models feature a honed front section and upgraded interior blending contemporary luxury with a strong sport character, aiming at rivals Audi for detailing and BMW for sportiness. The new CLS is expected to be launched in India a few months after it goes on sale in Europe.

Exteriors:
The biggest highlight of the new CLS though, is the new Multibeam LED headlamps. The headlamps are made of 24 individually controlled LEDs which provide optimum illumination. The light distribution is managed by four control units which judge the road conditions with the help of a camera mounted behind the windscreen. Mercedes-Benz claims that the headlamps illuminate area upto 485 metres and can mask them to prevent blinding the drivers in the oncoming traffic. Both models now come standard with newly designed all-LED headlamps, while the Multibeam LED headlamps are optional.
The dynamic overall design of the latest-generation CLS Coupe and CLS Shooting Brake draws not only on the new headlamps but also on an expressive new diamond radiator grille, striking front bumper with large air intakes and new, slightly darkened taillights with multi-level function.
Interiors:
Inside, besides some tweaks, the new CLS will also get a new eight-inch screen mounted on the dashboard, just like the one present in the A-Class and B-Class. It will be equipped with the latest version of Mercedes’ COMAND Online system with NTG 5.0. The infotainment system can sync with your cell phone and also supports HD voice telephony.
Engine:
Mechanically, The new CLS will be globally offered in no less than seven variants, ranging from the basic 168bhp CLS 220 BlueTEC to a performance-focussed 578bhp S edition. The engine sends power to the rear wheels though either a standard seven-speed automatic or the new 9G Tronic gearbox.
Besides its traditional rivals like the Audi A7 and the BMW 6 Series, the CLS also goes up against other conventional luxury sedans like the Audi A8 and the BMW 7 Series. In India the CLS has not really made the kind of impression it has globally, let’s see if it’s any different this time around.

These are the latest spy shots of a prototype for Mercedes-Benz updated CLS-Class under partial disguise. The second generation of the CLS, which spans both sedan and shooting brake wagon body-styles, was introduced for the 2012 model year so it’s now about due for a mid-cycle update. Mercedes had introduced new versions of its E-Class and S-Class models earlier this year. Not wanting the CLS to be left out from the product overhaul, designers appear to be giving the car a bit of a nip and tuck to keep it looking fresh.
As the spy shots reveal, the Mercedes-Benz CLS class facelift is likely to adopt a new:
- Grille
- New bumpers
- Updated lights.
But the major changes to this Mercedes-Benz CLS class facelift occur on the inside, borrowing heavily from the S-class, The new features are likely to include the mbrace2 infotainment system, MAGIC BODY CONTROL camera-based adaptive suspension and the latest DISTRONIC PLUS cruise control with Steering Assist, Cross-Traffic Assist, and Pre-Safe brake assist with pedestrian recognition. Night vision system, Active lane assist, Brake assist, and The Road sign recognition are also finding their way into the new Mercedes CLS. The display is also modified which also comes NTG5.5 the absolute latest telematics generation of the C-Class.
As for the Powertrain, we may see the CLS550 adopt Mercedes’ latest twin-turbocharged 4.6-liter V-8, which in the S-Class delivers 455 hp, although we could see the current 402-hp engine retained.One major change, however, is expected to be the addition of Mercedes’ new 9G-TRONIC nine-speed automatic transmission instead of the seven-speed unit currently found in the CLS. The 9G-TRONIC is said to be more refined and more fuel efficient. Though, AMG models will stick with a seven-speed Speedshift auto.
The Mercedes-Benz CLS Class Facelift is expected to be launched in June 2014.
