Following the established VW-Skoda strategy, the VW counterpart of the Skoda Kylaq might be on its way to our shores
The Skoda Kylaq-based VW Tera has been spied on test, fuelling speculations of the Indian launch. Now, we know that VW and Skoda use the same platform, engine and transmission for their cars. In India, the current breed of cars from these European auto giants uses the MQB A0 IN platform. This has spawned VW Virtus, VW Taigun and their Skoda counterparts, the Skoda Slavia and Skoda Kushaq. Note that the Czech car marque recently launched the Kylaq compact SUV (sub-4m). Hence, it is possible that we will even witness the VW’s version of the same.
Skoda Kylaq-based VW Tera Spied
The spy image has surfaced from Argentina. Note that this car is produced in Brazil. Therefore, the German auto giant might be planning to introduce it in other international markets including India. The exterior of the compact SUV is wrapped under a heavy camouflage. Still, we are able to deduce some elements which might be inspired by the Kylaq. At the front, it gets a sleek grille section with the VW logo flanked by LED headlamps, a sporty bumper and an upright bonnet. The side section showcases black alloy wheels and prominent wheel arches with faux roof rails. The tail end is also muscular. All in all, it could share a lot of parts with the Skoda Kylaq.
Similarly, we can assume loads of elements from the Kylaq on the inside. In any case, it will offer all the latest gadgets and gizmos to pamper the occupants. These could include a touchscreen infotainment screen, digital instrument cluster, powered seats, sunroof, cruise control, wireless charging, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone connectivity, automatic climate control and more. Clearly, it will possess most of the features of the Skoda Kylaq.
Specs
Again, if the VW Tera makes it to our shores, I doubt if it will carry anything other than the 1.0-litre 3-cylinder TSI turbo petrol mill which produces a healthy 115 PS and 178 Nm of peak power and torque. Performing the transmission duties will be either a 6-speed manual or a torque converter automatic gearbox. Note that the Kylaq achieves a 0-100 km/h acceleration in just 10.5 seconds with a top speed of 188 km/h. Also, it ranges from Rs 7.89 lakh to Rs 14.40 lakh, ex-showroom. The VW Tera will have similar specs and price. Let us keep an eye out for more details in this regard.
