The interior of the Land Rover Discovery Sport have been teased by the company.
The teaser images and video show us parts of the interior of the new 7-seater SUV. Land Rover has partnered with Virgin Galatic and the teaser video is full of hints of the same; be it the countdown, the moon seen through the panoramic sunroof or the floating SpaceShipTwo keychain. The idea behind the partnership is to showcase how the Land Rover Discovery will be an out-of-the-world experience as compared to its competition.
The teaser images and video show the following:
- 2+3+2 seating
- Full panoramic roof
- A blurred look of the new dashboard and the 3-spoke steering wheel
- The infotainment screen

The Land Rover Discovery Sport will be revealed for international markets on the 3rd of September 2014. The SUV will formally debut at the 2014 Paris Motor Show which will be held in October 2014. It is expected to be launched in markets worldwide, including India only by the second half of 2015, which means that it will be branded as the 2015 Land Rover Discovery Sport. When launched, the Discovery Sport will compete against the Audi Q5, BMW X3 and Volvo XC60.
As we had stated in our last update, the Discovery Sport will be offered as a 7-seater as well. So far this variant(s) has been confirmed for British market, it may or may not make its way to India. Land Rover may focus more on the diesel engines for the Discovery Sport models sold in India.

Spy shots of the Land Rover Discovery Sport, scheduled for a 2015 launch were captured in the UK recently. The prototype was caught in a parking lot under full body camouflage shrouding a design which is derived from the Discovery Vision concept, first put up on display at the 2014 New York Motor Show. It will be the first model part of an entirely new Discovery family which will include more than three models. The model will serve as a replacement for the Freelander 2 and is scheduled to come out sometime in 2015.
With a smarter cabin, the option of seven-seat capacity, and more rakish looks inspired by the Discovery Vision concept, it’s likely that the Discovery Sport will be priced a little higher than the ageing Freelander.
What do we know about the Discovery Sport ?
Though these fully hidden pictures give away very little of what to expect from the upcoming Discovery Sport, a spy shot of the interiors which have been doing the rounds for some time give us something more substantial to write about. The physical (rather than virtually rendered) dials look identical to the Range Rover Evoque: two binnacled clockfaces bookending a central navigation, vehicle data and infotainment display. The main touchscreen is larger than the outgoing Freelander’s. It’s bordered by buttons for the surround-view camera system, and shortcuts for the car’s main infotainment interface. The cabin-facing air vents have migrated below the screen, from their current position either side of the display.
This Discovery Sport test prototype is fitted with a manual gearbox. It’s likely that Land Rover will seek to offer an entry-level Discovery Sport fitted with a manual and front-wheel drive. Four-wheel drive will of course feature on pricier Discovery Sport models, along with Land Rover’s Terrain Response off-road technology, and the nine-speed automatic gearbox already offered in the Range Rover Evoque.
The car will be available as a five-seater, but a stretched-wheelbase 5+2 version will also be offered. While the bodywork, interior, engines and badge will be new, the underpinnings will be carried over from the current Freelander. Even though the new car has a similar footprint to the Evoque, Land Rover is certain the demand is there for both cars. It predicts that the global SUV market will grow from current annual sales of 14 million cars to 22 million by 2020. The brand has come up with three ‘pillars’ with which to capitalise on this sales boom: luxury, leisure and dual-purpose.

The Discovery Sport will benefit from the brand’s range of all-new four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines, which will be built at a new £500million Engine Manufacturing Centre in Wolverhampton, UK from 2015. Land Rover claims these will deliver “class-leading levels of refinement and significant reductions in emissions”.
