The Indian auto giant plans its entry into the dedicated electric vehicle segment with bespoke EVs for the global markets
The upcoming Mahindra electric SUVs, XEV 9e and BE 6e, have made a debut via an official teaser. Interestingly, Mahindra will be introducing two new electric brands – XEV and BE. These will be based on the Electric Origin INGLO architecture. The world premiere is slated for November 26, 2024, at the Unlimit India event in Chennai. Both these brands will commence operations with their flagship EVs – the XEV 9e and BE 6e, respectively. Let us glance at the details here.
Mahindra Teases Upcoming Electric SUVs
Being a teaser, we are barely able to deduce any concrete detail from the visuals. Still, there are glimpses of the silhouettes of these electric SUVs. The XEV 9e seems to be based on the XUV700 albeit with completely electric credentials including styling. Nevertheless, the overall demeanour will borrow elements from the ICE model. At the front, it will get a connected LED strip which runs across the width of the SUV and culminates into the LED DRLs on the extreme edges. A similar theme will play out at the rear with LED taillights. On the sides, it will get flush-fitted door handles. The overall stance will be butch and muscular.
On the other hand, the BE 6e will adopt the coupe SUV approach. That is something we have seen in the past when these SUVs were first announced a couple of years ago. Therefore, unsurprisingly, even this teaser highlights the rear section of the BE 6e in the beginning. We will get that sloping roofline with an extended bootlid compartment to complete that coupe stance. Note that there is also a prominent roof-mounted spoiler at the rear. At the front, the teaser reveals C-shaped LED DRLs at the front which create a housing for the main headlamp units. The BE moniker on the end of the bonnet looks futuristic. More details will emerge at the world premiere.
My View
Mahindra is definitely preparing a huge new chapter to its already glorious legacy. However, this time around, its products will compete on the global stage. We have already seen it taste success with its current breed of ICE cars like the XUV700 and Scorpio N in many parts of the world including South Africa and Australia. With its electric range, I am excited to see how far it can go to influence global markets. I shall keep an eye out for more details in times to come. For now, let us brace ourselves for the world premiere.
