Design
As mentioned earlier the K10 is based on the Alto 800 which means it gets a taller stance and a more upright rear. Maruti had to elongate the bonnet to fit the larger 1 litre engine and along with that they’ve also thoroughly updated the exteriors and the interiors. On the outside the new Maruti Alto K10 features larger, sharper headlamps with a dual grille. The strong shoulder line stretches till the rear end which houses a well designed set of rear tail lamps integrated nicely with a flatter boot-lid.
The interiors of the new Maruti Alto K10 are a breath of fresh air with a very upmarket design complimented by the black and beige colour scheme. The instrument cluster looks very modern and the centre console gets a piano black finish which give the car a more premium feel. The front seats, however, get fixed headrests reminding us of its budget friendly nature. The backside of the front seats have been scooped out to create more rear knee room but on the downside the front passengers can feel the rear passengers’ knees.
Engine & Transmission
The new Maruti Alto K10 features the same 1.0 litre 3 cylinder engine which now produces 68 BHP of power and 90 Nm of torque with the improved K-Series engine. The most significant update in this department is the option of an automatic transmission, the AMT autobox borrowed form the Celerio along with the usual 5 speed manual transmission. Buyers will also have the option of choosing the new Maruti Alto K10 in a CNG guise.
The new engine delivers a superb mileage of 24.07 KMPL on petrol and 32.26 km/kg with CNG fuel which makes the running cost of new Alto K10 among the lowest in India in this segment.

The Alto K10 facelift will receive an automated-manual transmission, just like the one that debuted on the Maruti Suzuki Celerio hatchback earlier in 2014. The new Alto K10 facelift will be launched sometime late in 2014 or early 2015 and the AMT variant of the K10 is expected to be very popular, if the demand for the Celrio AMT is anything to go by.

2014 Maruti Alto K10: What’s New?
Though heavily camouflaged, we can see that the new 2014 Maruti Alto K10 facelift has been influenced by the Celerio and the Alto 800. The front fascia with the headlights and the grille seem similar to the Celerio while the side profile seems to have been inspired by the Alto 800.
The ORVM design too is reminiscent of the one found on the Celerio. The spy photographer reported that the interiors received extensive redesign as well, the spy shots of it are awaited.
The 2014 Maruti Alto K10 will continue to be powered by the 1.0-litre K10 engine found on the current model, but a lower weight should increase performance as well as fuel-efficiency. The current model delivers around 20 KMPL as per ARAI tests, the new car should be able to cross that easily. The big news will be the fact that the new car will be more spacious than the current model thanks to the adoption of a taller design.
Expected Price and Competition
The ongoing 2010 Maruti Alto K10 model is on sale at a price of Rs. 3.19 Lakhs and Rs. 3.31 Lakhs ex-showroom for the Lxi and Vxi variants respectively. With the refreshed variant, we can expect that the prices will go up slightly and we can expect that 2014 Maruti Alto K10 will be priced between Rs. 3.30 Lakhs to Rs. 3.80 Lakhs (estimated).
At the above mentioned price point, the new Alto K10 will overlap slightly with the lowest end Lx model of the Maruti Wagon R. However it does not make Maruti Suzuki too worried as most of its small cars have a price overlap with other small cars which are placed just above and below. Some good examples in this series are Wagon R, Celerio, Ritz and Swift which are all price with some amount of over lap with one another.
Talking about the competition for the 2014 Maruti Alto K10, we see some strong contenders including the recently launched Datsun Go, the established car Hyundai Santro, lower end models of Hyundai i10, Alto’s own sibling the Wagon R and Chevrolet Beat to name a few. However, in this price segment, Maruti is already strong in market share and with a refreshed product, it needs not worry too much about competition. We have seen new products from Maruti doing better than their previous generation models for almost all segments (with few exceptions like SX4).
Our Take On 2014 Maruti Alto K10
We believe it is high time Maruti Suzuki India should revamp their older generation models to live up to customer needs and expectations. Refreshed models from Maruti are an indication that they are stepping in right direction. We have seen fierce competition in small car segment from various brands. Besides the automobile sector going through a rough patch when it comes to sales, the small car segment does not loose its charm for car makers. We look forward to gather some more details on the new 2014 Alto K10 for you and will keep you posted. Expect more shots and details of the car to be revealed closer to launch.
