Maruti Suzuki Celerio Diesel Gets Optional Safety Features Across All Variants
Updated
Good news folks! Maruti has just launched the Celerio diesel at an event in NCR. The Celerio diesel was among the the most highly anticipated of all the upcoming Maruti cars this year and the new engine variant has gone on sale with DDiS 125 moniker. The diesel variant of the Celerio hatchback should revitalize the sales performance of Maruti Suzuki in the small car segment of our country’s fast developing car market. It maybe noted that the Celerio hasn’t been very successful in establishing itself in the highly competent small car market of our country and the addition of the diesel engine is sure to give this car’s sales performance a shot in the arm. The diesel engine that powers the Celerio will be also seen on Maruti’s upcoming LCV (codename- Y9T). The upcoming Y9T LCV will go up against the likes of the Tata Ace and the Mahindra Maxximo. In future, this engine could also end up under the hood of other Maruti small cars such as the Alto and the WagonR.

The Maruti Suzuki Celerio diesel has been caught on video, check it out above. The diesel engine is obviously very loud, since it is still being developed. Visually, the Celerio Diesel will not look any different from the petrol/CNG variants of the car, except for the badges. We expect Maruti to provide less equipment in the diesel variants than the similar petrol variants to keep the price of the cars competitive.
Features
Akin to the petrol variant, the upcoming Celerio diesel gets four variants – LDi, VDi, ZDi and ZDi (O). The flagship variant gets safety features like ABS, EBD and dual front airbags.

Specification
The biggest news though is the 2-cylinder, 793cc turbocharged diesel engine which will be powering the car. The new motor will come mated to a 5-speed manual transmission and the first self-developed oil burner from the manufacturer is likely to belt out a maximum power of 47 bhp at 3,500 rpm and a peak torque of 125 Nm (hence the DDiS 125 moniker) at 2,000 rpm. This twin-cylinder low capacity diesel engine doesn’t get a common-rail diesel injection, and instead, comes with a Bosch engine management system that has a fuel injection block, a high-pressure fuel pump and a fuel control unit. The motor also gets a high-revving turbocharger and four valves per cylinder. This diesel engine weighs merely 89 kgs.
Maruti Celerio Diesel Videos
Here’s an interesting video that shows the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Celerio diesel being revved alongside the Swift diesel. As can be made out from the video, the NVH levels for the Celerio diesel are slightly on the higher side and even the engine note doesn’t sound too exciting, which doesn’t really come across as a surprise, what with the Celerio D’s motor being just a low capacity two-cylinder unit.
Here’s another video that gives you a good idea of the upcoming model’s NVH levels –
