Mahindra Thar Roxx With VIN 0001 Auctions For Rs 1.31 Crore

The owner of this Mahindra Thar Roxx takes home the bragging rights of owning the ‘The’ First Of ‘The’ SUV’, as Mahindra is calling it

The special Mahindra Thar Roxx with the VIN 0001 was up for auction and the winning bid came out to be a jaw-dropping Rs 1.31 Crore. The Indian auto giant has opened the registration for the bidding process on September 12, 2024. This presented a great chance for a special customer to own a part of the legacy of the first 5-door Mahindra Thar. This will be the first Mahindra Thar Roxx ever sold. Mahindra says that the amount accumulated via the auction will go towards a worthy cause. This is a common practice in the automobile industry. Organizations often have special edition models of cars on auction to raise money for useful causes. Mostly, it is related to charity or donation to a relatable cause.

The image of the auction announcement was shared by the official mahindrathar handle on Instagram. The text on the image reads, “‘The’ First Of ‘The’ SUV. Bid for a cause”. Right next to this text is a badge which reads VIN:0001 with Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd and Thar Roxx lettering. It will be signed by Anand Mahindra. The auction started on September 15 and the bids were accepted till September 16 by 9 PM. After the entire ceremony, the winning bid was a mind-boggling Rs 1.31 Crore. With this, the first owner of the Mahindra Thar Roxx will become a part of the history of this moniker along with having the satisfaction of knowing that his money is going towards helping someone in some way and bettering the society. The funds will be allocated to one of four non-profit organizations as per the winner’s choice. What is interesting to see know is that the first 3-door Thar was also sold in auction for Rs 1.11 Crore. At that time, this money was donated to support relief work for COVID. The Thar Roxx has even gone one step ahead.

The Mahindra Thar Roxx comes with two powertrain options with slightly different engine calibrations depending on the type of transmission on offer. There is either a 2.0-litre mStallion turbo petrol mill or a 2.2-litre mHawk turbo diesel mill. The former generates 162 PS (MT) / 330 Nm to 177 PS (AT) / 380 Nm, while these figures are 163 PS (MT) / 330 Nm and 175 PS / 370 Nm of peak power and torque for the diesel version. Performing the transmission duties is either a 6-speed manual or an automatic gearbox. The Indian automaker has announced that the 4×4 configuration will be available with the diesel engine only. Also, the prices of the 4×4 versions will be announced later. The regular Thar Roxx ranges from Rs 12.99 lakh to Rs 20.49 lakh, ex-showroom.

Our View

Giving up cars for auction is a great way to raise funds for charitable causes. We know how passionate people are about purchasing special edition models of cars. Hence, the carmakers give them an opportunity to play their part toward humanity by setting up such events. Generally, these funds are offered by big corporates as a part of their CSR initiatives. This is a perfect way to take into account the benefits of two stakeholders and achieve something truly special with it. I hope more such initiatives surface in the coming times.
