For performance enthusiasts, the Maruti Suzuki Swift is available in a Sport avatar with a peppy turbo petrol mill in many international markets.
The details of the 2025 Swift Sport have been revealed for the Japanese market. Note that the Swift Sport is a hot hatch which has been immensely popular in many parts of the world for a long time. However, the Indian market was dominated by the likes of the VW Polo GT, Tata Alroz Racer and Hyundai i20 N Line. The Polo was also discontinued in our market a couple of years ago. Hence, the current lineup just has two products. Therefore, it would make a lot of sense for Maruti to bring the Swift Sport to rival these two.
2025 Swift Sport Details Leaked
We know that the fourth generation Swift has been launched in India a few weeks ago. Based on that, the Sport trim might get another lease of life. There were some reports online suggesting that the Sport lineage of the Suzuki Sport might finally die. But with the latest details, it looks like we will have the Swift Sport for one more generation. In fact, the updated 1.4-litre turbo petrol engine with a 48-volt setup could produce up to 112 kW (150 hp) of peak power and 240 Nm of peak torque. These might be the option of choosing between either a manual or an automatic transmission. In India, it could even borrow the powertrain from the Fronx Turbo to keep the costs in check.
Now, even though there are no plans for Maruti Suzuki to bring the Swift Sport to our shores, I believe the largest carmaker in the country could, at least, offer it as a Halo product to boost the brand image. We know that Maruti Suzuki is the top carmaker in our country. Therefore, it makes sense to have all kinds of products in the portfolio. Despite the high prices, it might get some takers who are looking for a performance hatchback while keeping in association with Maruti Suzuki.
Our View
Maruti Swift has to be one of the most iconic monikers in India. In fact, it is quite popular across many international markets. In its current iteration, the main highlight is the brand-new Z12E 3-cylinder engine which offers a mileage of 24.8 km/l (MT) and 25.75 km/l (AMT). If the largest carmaker in the country wishes to expand its portfolio, it could utilize a 1.0-litre Boosterjet engine from the Fronx. Let us see if Maruti Suzuki decides to bring the Swift Sport to our shores going forward.
