2024 Maruti Dzire vs Old Model – What All’s Different?

The 2024 Maruti Dzire is about to launch in our market and promises to come with tons of updates including the powertrain, aesthetics and features.

I have reported about the test mule of the 2024 Maruti Dzire on multiple occasions in the last few weeks. The largest carmaker in the country has been testing it rigorously across various terrains and temperature conditions. Dzire is among the most successful vehicles in our market. It has been selling in India since 2008. Initially started as the sedan iteration of the Swift, it soon created its own market and demand. What helped massively was the widespread adoption by the commercial fleet operators. Hence, the Dzire moniker became a household name whether you consider taxis or private usage. Now, the fourth generation of the Maruti Dzire is about to make its way into the market. It will be based on the latest Swift.

2024 Maruti Dzire vs Old Model – Specs and Mileage

Let us commence with the new 2024 Maruti Dzire. Even though it has not been officially launched, we know that it will share its powertrain with the fourth-generation Swift. Therefore, it will draw power from a brand new 1.2-litre 3-cylinder mild hybrid petrol engine which produces a decent 82 PS and 112 Nm of peak power and torque. This engine will pair with either a 5-speed manual or an AMT automatic gearbox. However, the biggest talking point about this engine is its mileage. In Swift, the automatic variant offers an impressive fuel economy of an almost unbelievable 25.75 km/l, while in manual guise, this number is a healthy 24.8 km/l. Since the Dzire will be slightly heavier than the Swift, these numbers might witness a minor decrease. Still, these will be more than the rivals. A CNG variant might be on offer at a later stage.

On the other hand, the existing Maruti Dzire carries the 1.2-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine which is good for a much higher 90 PS and 113 Nm of peak power and torque. Even this model pairs with either a 5-speed manual or an AMT automatic gearbox. The manual trim offers a mileage of 22.41 km/l and the automatic variant returns a fuel economy of 22.61 km/l. It is clear that the new engine is designed to maximize mileage with increased efficiency. In the case of Swift, even the weight of the car has been reduced. It will be interesting to see what mileage the new model possesses. There is also a CNG trim on sale with the current Dzire.

2024 Maruti Dzire vs Old Model – Design and Dimensions

The most interesting aspect of the 2024 Maruti Dzire will be its exterior design. As we have seen with the new Swift, the fascia is different in comparison to the outgoing model. We can expect a similar theme for the new Dzire too. Hence, the 2024 model would get new LED headlamps with integrated LED DRLs, a large grille section with gloss black elements, a sporty bumper, a new set of alloy wheels, an almost identical side profile like the Swift apart from the rear section which will include a dedicated boot compartment, a redesigned tail section, sporty bumper and more. The front and sides will be based on the Swift, while the rear section will be new.

On the other hand, the current-gen Dzire also gets a swept-back headlamp cluster with a flowing bonnet line. The grille section is much larger and it gets chrome surrounds which adds bling to the appearance. In fact, the chrome elements also encapsulate the fog lamp housing. On the sides, the Dzire gets black B-pillars and subtle alloy wheels. At the rear, the extended boot section contains LED taillamps and a rugged bumper. All in all, we have been familiar with this look for a while now and would ideally want to see the update. Even though the exact dimensions of the new Dzire are not out yet, we can take a calculated guess based on the sub-4 m rule and the new Swift.

Features and Safety

Yet another area where the 2024 Maruti Dzire will bear relevant changes in comparison to the existing model is the interior and safety. The new Swift offers 6 airbags as standard across the range. I expect the Dzire to carry the same lineup. Hence, even the base trim will come with 6 airbags which will enhance the safety prowess of the compact sedan. Our View

Now the upcoming 2024 Maruti Dzire is bound to be an immensely enticing product. It already has a record of being one of the highest-selling vehicles in our market. Its mileage, low running costs, low maintenance costs, and the reliability associated with the Maruti Suzuki brand are some of the top reasons for its success. With the fourth generation model, the compact sedan offers even more attractive new-age features, a brand-new engine and an even higher mileage. Hence, there is no reason to think that customers won’t buy it heavily. Also, I don’t expect the prices to bear a hefty premium over the current model. This will ensure that it remains as accessible to the masses as ever. For exact details, we will have to wait for a bit longer since the official launch is slated for the end of August.
