As we get closer to the official unveiling of the 5-door Mahindra Thar Armada at an official event on this Independence Day, we have a new rendering that could be an accurate representation of the actual vehicle
The 5-door Mahindra Thar Armada was recently seen sans camouflage, showing off its front end and side profile. Obviously, I was quick to draw a visual comparison with the Jeep Wrangler. As expected, Mahindra is playing it safe to avoid any lawsuits. The traditional body style 3-door Thar as well as the Roxor stirred controversies for an uncanny resemblance with the Jeep. Actually, much of this is stems from the erstwhile collaboration between the two carmakers, which saw Mahindra producing the Wills CJ3A under license. Subsequently, the homegrown models from the Indian carmaker feature evolved versions of the classic aesthetics. That said, it looks like Mahindra is steering clear from receiving any flak with the upcoming 5-door model. The digital rendering you see here could be the best-ever representation of the actual vehicle.
Clear Differentiation between Jeep Wrangler and Mahindra Thar Armada
The said spy images cleary show the discrepancies in the front and the side of the two SUVs. The front of the new Thar shows minimal resemblance with the premium off-roader. Of course, the classic round design for the headlamp stays but it features integrated LED DRLs that lend it a different signature. Another major difference arises from the front grille. The horizontal element in the slates gives the Thar a different look. But the side profile is where the major difference arises.
Of course, the silhouette might still be the same and so is the clamshell hood but there’s enough to differentiate the two SUVs. The door panels on the new Thar are totally different. The rear door has side-mounted handles instead of the conventional position on the Wrangler. Moreover, the alloy wheel design and the side steps are different. Even the cladding is not similar. But the biggest difference lies in the rear three quarter. The Thar gets a triangular quarter glass here. This gives it a clearly unique identity. The rendering we have here gives us a good idea of what the actual SUV will look like. I am also attaching the latest spy images below for you to have a good look at the details.

We have time and again reported how the new 5-door Thar will share its underpinnings with the Scorpio N. Even the engines will be carried over, which means propelling the SUV will be 2.0-litre turbo petrol and 2.2-litre turbo diesel units. Additionally, the 1.5-litre oil-burner from the Thar RWD will make an appearance on the base models. Select diesel variants should offer 4×4. Both manual and automatic transmission options will be on offer. The reincarnated Armada will make its public debut on August 15. Watch this space for more.
