Tata CURVV is the upcoming coupe SUV from the Indian automaker and is being tested in the extreme heat of the Thar Desert. Tata Motors is one of the largest carmakers in the country. It has constantly been occupying the third spot on the monthly sales behind Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai. Its portfolio is well-diversified and all products contribute in a healthy proportion to the cumulative sales. Amidst all this, there is one segment that Tata Motors is not directly catering to at the moment – the mid-size SUV segment. This contains the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, etc. Hence, the CURVV is designed to take on these impressive products.
Tata CURVV Tested in Thar Desert
This video clip has been shared by the official Tata Motors channel on YouTube. The information in the video mentions that the location is somewhere around Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. The temperature is 50 degrees Celsius. During the peak time of the day, the coupe SUV is out on the sand demonstrating extreme heat performance test. The aim is to test the endurance levels of the components of the vehicle. I would imagine this includes things like the performance of AC, engine components, tyres, coolants and other relative elements to ensure that people can use it in extreme environments without any issues. Tata Motors mentions that the CURVV is designed for tough terrains.
Now, we have been spotting the Tata CURVV on public roads for quite some time. Hence, we know that the interior of the coupe SUV indicates a modern appearance with a connected dual screen for the instrument cluster and infotainment display. Apart from that, it will get a two-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel, rotary dials for drive mode selection, touch-sensitive HVAC controls, etc. On the outside, the sloping roofline will be the defining trait of the silhouette. One thing is for sure, there is no other vehicle in the mass market that looks like the CURVV. Finally, it will even get petrol, diesel and electric powertrains to cater to a wide range of potential customers.
Our View
Tata Motors is on track to launch its first vehicle in this space. Remember that the CURVV will be positioned between the Nexon and Harrier SUVs. Hence, it is a significantly popular market segment which already has products from all major carmakers. I believe Tata Motors has its work cut out. It won’t be easy to dominate the rivals since they have been the go-to choices for a whole lot of buyers for a long time. Having said that, if anyone knows the mindset of the Indian customers, it has to be Tata Motors. I am certain that it will put its expertise into designing the CURVV to entice more new buyers. Let us wait for the launch, which could take place in the coming months before the end of this year.
