In this post, I am comparing the upcoming Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450 with the Himalayan. Both these motorcycles will share a lot of elements including the powertrain. But these possess distinct capabilities. Hence, these are geared towards two separate sets of riders. The Himalayan is already an iconic product among the off-roading community in India. Its rugged capabilities allow people to ride them across harsh terrains relatively effortlessly. On the other hand, the RE Guerrilla 450 will be the new offering. It will be geared more toward long tours and peppy riding. Let us compare these two here.
Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450 vs Himalayan – Design
The teaser of a stunt rider experiencing the Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450 comes from RushLane on YouTube. In the visuals, spirited stunts are showcased. In fact, the rider is the skilled and popular Guy Martin. He has 17 podium finishes at TT events. He pushes the motorcycle to its limits. Also, he is spinning the rear tyre, standing on the bike while riding, taking it off-tarmac, etc. This represents that the bike will be able to take on challenging terrains. The motorbike gets round headlamps, low seat height, centrally positioned footpegs, broad tyres, and some similar components to the Himalayan like a subframe, swingarm and pillion footrest and broad tyres. It bears a retro appearance with modern elements.
On the other hand, the Himalayan 450 is a familiar sight having been around for years now. In its latest iteration, it comes with a new front windshield, LED indicators, round headlamps, a sleek exhaust pipe, loud exhaust note, muscular fuel tank, wire-spoked tyres, solid components around the side profile, a split-seat setup and slim tail section. It carries the typical off-roading bike vibes, something we have witnessed for ages.
Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450 vs Himalayan – Specs
In terms of specifications, the RE Himalayan 450 is available with a powerful 452-cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder DOHC 4V engine which generates a healthy 40.02 PS of power @ 8,000 RPM and 40 Nm of torque @ 5,500 RPM. This engine pairs with a 6-speed slip & assist gearbox with a wet multi-plate clutch and features a 42 mm throttle body with a Ride-by-Wire system. The motorcycle uses a twin-spar tubular steel frame with a 43 mm USD front fork with 200 mm of travel and a linkage-type mono-shock at the rear with 200 mm of travel.
The ground clearance is a decent 230 mm and the seat height can be adjusted between 805 mm and 845 mm. It has a 90-section 21-inch tyre at the front and a 140-section 17-inch tyre at the rear. At the front, the Himalayan uses a 320 mm ventilated disc and double-piston caliper and at the rear, there was a 270 mm ventilated disc with a single-piston caliper. The dry weight of the bike is 181 kg and the fuel tank capacity is a usable 17 litres.
Interestingly, even the upcoming RE Guerrilla 450 will share most components with the Himalayan. However, it could get a different set of wheels, and the seat height will be different too. But the powertrain will remain the same. Therefore, there won’t be too much to choose from in terms of the specifications.

The Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 retails between Rs 2.85 lakh and Rs 2.98 lakh, ex-showroom. These include 4 variants – Base, Pass, Kamet White, and Hanle Black. Hence, the Guerrilla will definitely have an edge over the Himalayan in this regard.

Our View
As mentioned previously, these two bikes will share a lot of elements but will still possess distinct characteristics. On one hand, the Himalayan is an out-and-out off-roader. It is meant for extremely adventurous activities. That is the reason why you would find hardcore off-roading enthusiasts opting for this as the default motorcycle. On the contrary, the Guerrilla will offer comfort and performance on long tours with occasional off-roading. Therefore, both these bikes will have their distinct buyers. Also, more details about the Guerrilla will appear closer to the launch.
