The upcoming Skoda Kodiaq premium mid-size SUV has been spied testing on the Indian roads. The launch is slated for the end of this financial year. While it is not a direct rival to something like the Toyota Fortuner, the price point can certainly make the customers choose between the two. In any case, the SUVs in this market segment are considered niche products. The sales volumes are not high. But brand loyalists are the ones who opt for these cars. Alternatively, people looking for a substitute of the premium luxury car can also buy these. For now, let us take a look at the details of the latest spy shots.
Skoda Kodiaq Spied Testing
This video comes from zigwheels on Instagram. It captures the visuals of the undisguised premium mid-size SUV. What is interesting is the fact that the SUV is not wearing any camouflage. Hence, we are able to experience the exact design of the SUV. At the front, it bears a familiar fascia which we often see on Skoda cars. This includes a massive butterfly grille which is surrounded by a chrome frame. Flanking this grille are sleek LED headlamp units along with integrated LED DRLs splitting the headlamp clusters into two. I reckon the lower unit houses the fog lamps.
Apart from that, the bumper looks sporty and the edges are adventurous. The Kodiaq gets a long and clamshell bonnet culminating with the Skoda logo. On the sides, we see black side pillars, black side body cladding, pronounced wheel arches, a new alloy wheel design, and a sporty and modern tail section. I find the most attractive element to be the split-LED taillamp cluster. Apart from that, the Skoda lettering on the tailgate oozes a premium vibe. I also like the rugged skid plate component on the rear bumper. It elevates the SUV traits of the entire vehicle. All in all, the Skoda Kodiaq will be a stunner to look at and offer a prominent road presence.
Specs
As we have seen in the past, the Skoda Kodiaq will share its powertrain with the Superb premium sedan. Therefore, I expect the upcoming Kodiaq to carry the familiar 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine which produces a healthy 190 hp and 320 Nm of peak power and torque. This engine pairs with a sole 7-speed DSG automatic transmission. This engine offers impressive driving characteristics. Despite being an SUV, people would love to take it out on highways for a spirited performance. The current model has a retail sticker of Rs 39.99 lakh, ex-showroom. The new model would definitely command a significant premium over this price.
