In an inspiring tale, a Sardarji was seen driving to Ladakh from Chandigarh in a 73-year-old vintage car along with his family. It fascinates me to encounter people who love their vintage cars so much that they restore and use them decades after they purchased them. In all honesty, it isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. Maintaining vintage cars beyond a certain period of time is extremely challenging. The most obvious difficulty is securing the spare parts. Still, passion often overpowers everything else. Those who have that innate affinity toward their cars find a way to tackle all these obstacles. Let us take a look at the details of this case.
Man Drives 73-Year-Old Vintage Car to Ladakh
The details of this video appear on the Jammu samvad channel on YouTube. The host was travelling to Leh and Ladakh when he spotted a completely unique red vintage vehicle on the road. A Honda CR-V was following it. That is when they asked the driver of the vintage car to stop and have a conversation. The aged Sardarji appears out of the 1951 Fiat Topolino. Shockingly, he informs the host that he purchased this iconic vehicle back in 1969 for an amount of Rs 3,750. At the time, he had just gotten married.
Funnily enough, he sold his Royal Enfield Bullet at the time which he had bought for Rs 4,300 and bought this. After the marriage, he travelled in this car with his wife for years. In fact, it even has a rear seat for the child in which they used to take their son along. Today, their son lives in Australia. But he had come to India for this trip. For this journey to Ladakh, they were travelling in such a configuration that the vintage car was in the front and the son, mother and what looks like the son’s family were following in the Honda CR-V. It was motivating to see the enthusiasm the old couple have for life. They recalled their exciting old days in this car. Finally, he also mentions that small parts are easily available but other components have to be imported.
Our View
Being an automobile aficionado, I am thrilled to acquaint myself with a legendary car enthusiast like this Sardarji. He has kept the vehicle in top condition for over 55 years. That is quite unbelievable! It is only his innate passion that has ensured that he arranges for the spare parts and keeps the Fiat in this health for such a long time. Also, it also puts things into perspective. In this age of consumerism, it is almost impossible for anyone to keep anything older than a few years. In the previous generation, they used to believe in fixing things and not replacing them. That is what makes this legendary 1951 Fiat Topolino so special and inspiring.
