The widely anticipated Mahindra BE.05 was recently spied by one of our friends on the bustling roads near a toll plaza in South India. I have been reporting about the electric coupe SUV performing test runs on our streets for a long time now. The Indian auto giant is ensuring that the EV undergoes rigorous testing to experience all sorts of traffic conditions, climatic conditions, varied terrains and more. This will be necessary since EVs are known to struggle in extreme temperatures. For now, let us take a look at the details of this latest spotting.
Upcoming Mahindra BE.05 Spied
These latest images indicate rather modern amenities on the EV. The rear section of the coupe SUV is visible. There is a full-width light bar which incorporates the LED taillamps along with LED sequential turn indicators. The latter was previously associated with only high-end premium cars. But Mahindra equipping its upcoming EVs with this feature is a sign that it wants to make the latest tech available to the masses. That is something it has been doing for a while now. Its XUV700 is a prime example of that. Back to the BE.05 now.
The side profile accentuates the sloping roofline. In fact, the quarter glass looks angular and tiny due to this design pattern. Apart from that, it gets colossal wheel arches with prominent cladding. The design of the alloy wheels is concealed by the camouflage. I also like the flush-fitting door handles, the shark fin antenna and a roof-mounted rear spoiler with a high-mount stop lamp. All in all, the road presence of the Mahindra BE.05 will be unlike any other vehicle in the mass market. Note that it will rival the Tata Curvv EV.
Our View
Last year, Mahindra announced its ambitious EV plans for the next couple of years already. By 2026, we will most likely have 4 new EVs in the lineup. These will be a combination of the conversion of the existing XUV700 to form XUV.e8 and XUV.e9 and born electric EVs including BE.05, BE.07 and BE.09. The latter 3 will be based on a bespoke INGLO platform and will offer futuristic cabin and amenities. A few of these have already been spotted testing. The BE.05 will be the first all-new electric car from Mahindra and we might see the launch by the end of this year or the beginning of next year.
