The Nissan Magnite facelift was spotted in a rather unusual setting at the Bharat NCAP testing lab. Generally, we see upcoming cars being spy-tested out on public roads. To conceal their true identity, they are often wrapped under a heavy camouflage. However, the hawk-eyed netizens spotted the facelift model of the Nissan Magnite parked in the background in the Tata Punch EV crash video. The partial wrap gives away its identity. The launch is slated for early next year, perhaps in January 2025. Let us take a look at the details of what it could possibly offer.
Nissan Magnite Facelift at Bharat NCAP Testing Lab
The visuals of this sneak peek come from the Bharat NCAP channel on YouTube. During the side impact test at 50 km/h, there is something interesting in the video clip. During the frontal shot of the micro SUV, we are able to witness the partially revealed Nissan Magnite facelift parked in the background. It is there for the crash test. This gives us an indication that we might have the score of the compact SUV at the time of the launch. Recently, we reported the facelift version of the Renault Kiger. These are badge-engineered products. Hence, most changes that the new Kiger will come with will pass on to the Magnite too.
Being a facelift, the Nissan Magnite is bound to come with minor aesthetic alterations. Also, there could be the inclusion of some new-age features like wireless charging and a larger touchscreen infotainment unit. However, the Kiger will boast better NVH control. Hence, the passengers will experience a more silent cabin. We know that the thump from a 3-cylinder engine can be quite strong at times. To counter that, the vehicle needs to be appropriately insulated. Since the facelift Kiger will come with it, there is no reason why the Nissan Magnite facelift won’t have it. Also, the safety ratings will play a crucial role in sales since people are conscious of that in today’s world.
Specs
I don’t expect any changes to the powertrains in comparison to the current model. Hence, the facelift Magnite will draw power from either a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol or the same engine with a turbocharger. The former will be good for a usable 71 hp and 96 Nm, while the latter will churn out a decent 99 hp and 152 Nm (160 Nm with CVT) of peak power and torque. There will be options of choosing between either a 5-speed manual, a 5-speed AMT or a CVT automatic gearbox (only with turbo). The current prices range from Rs 6 lakh to Rs 11.27 lakh, ex-showroom. I expect a premium of upto Rs 50,000 on these.
Specs | Nissan Magnite |
Engine | 1.0L P and Turbo P |
Power | 71 hp / 99 hp |
Torque | 96 Nm / 152 Nm (160 Nm w/ CVT) |
Transmission | 5MT / 5 AMT / CVT |
Our View
The compact SUV segment is among the most crowded in our market. There are products like the Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Mahindra XUV3XO, Renault Kiger, etc. Hence, the competition is fierce. But the biggest advantage of Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger is their prices. They currently start at around Rs 6 lakh while the rivals commence at Rs 8 lakh. Hence, people get access to a practical compact SUV at a significantly lower price point. Still, the rivals have dominated the sales charts. Perhaps, the facelift version of the Nissan Magnite could do the trick to spur demand.
