Fiat has been teasing us with the launch of the next-gen Linea for a long time. After being showcased at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo in February, the 2014 Fiat Linea has finally been launched in India. Priced between Rs. 6.99 Lakh and Rs. 9.28 Lakh, the Linea is pitted against the likes of the Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Volkswagen Vento, Skoda Rapid etc.
From the look of things initially, the new Linea could be a very popular car. It is good looking, it has increased interior space than before, the interiors are much more appealing than before, and it has much more value-for-money than before.
Here are the changes in brief:
- Mild exterior changes
- Comprehensive interior design change
- Gets disc brakes on all four wheels and ABS as standard on the petrol variants, a segment first
- New dual-tone dashboard
- Rear seat armrest as standard
- Electrically adjustable ORVM as standard
- Rear A/C vent as standard
- 1.4-litre FIRE petrol engine discontinued
- No change mechanically

What’s New?

The basic design of the car remains the same as before, first lets look at the photos:
As we said before, the basic design of the car has not changed. The changes include:
- New grille, it gets two-slat design with a very thick chrome surround.
- New front bumper
- At the side the profile remains the same
- New alloy wheel design
- At the rear a chrome slat above the number plate holder with ‘Linea’ embossed on it
- Rear bumper is new with a huge chrome bar across it
Paint options have been changed slightly, the Oceanic Blue paint option has been removed and a two new paint option have been added. In total, customers have choice of 6 paint options as shown below:
Interior Design
The interiors receive a lot of changes, which really refreshes the car. Have a look at the photos below:
Changes made to interiors include:
- New dashboard design, with dual-tone colours (Black and Beige)
- New A/C vent design, circular side vents as compared to the rectangular ones on the previous model
- Lockable storage bin above the centre console
- Redesigned instrument cluster
- Redesigned centre console with a larger multi-media control interface
- Foot/Knee level rear A/C vent between the front seats
- Rear seat armrest with storage space and cup holders

Engine and Transmission
The engine lineup for the 2014 Fiat Linea has been changed slightly. Only the base Active petrol variant is powered by the 89 BHP / 115 Nm 1.4-litre FIRE petrol motor which was available on the previous model. Other engines include the 113 BHP / 207 Nm T-Jet petrol or the 1.3-litre 92 BHP / 209 Nm MultiJet diesel engine, which were available earlier too. While the T-Jet has an ARAI certified fuel-efficiency of 15.7 KMPL, the MultiJet diesel has a fuel-efficiency figure of 20.4 KMPL. Both the engines are mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.
