The ever-growing EV market of our country has pushed many vehicle manufacturers to finally foray into this space. While we already have biggies like Maruti Suzuki planning to finally launch their maiden electric car, even Skoda India is set to join the fray. The first electric car from the Indian subsidiary of the Czech carmaker will be the Enyaq iV. A premium e-SUV set to rival the likes of Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6, the Enyaq shares MEB its underpinnings with the VW ID 4. I feel that what this means is that even the Volkswagen counterpart is on its way to our shores. In the latest sighting, two units of the upcoming Skoda SUV were seen driving together sans camouflage. The sole spy pic from the sighting has been shared with us by Parth Pandey.
Skoda Enyaq iV Caught Testing Yet Again!
The above image shows two units of white electric SUVs testing fully exposed. The gazillion sightings of the vehicle clearly hint at a not-so-distant launch. In fact, speaking to the media last year, Petr Solc, Brand Director, Skoda India, revealed his company’s plans for the electric market. He said,”We will commence with the Enyaq within the current fiscal year, aiming to assess the market. Based on a positive market response, we will explore avenues for introducing additional EV models.” Thanks to his insight, it’s clear that the carmaker wishes to take a well-calculated approach towards stepping into India’s electric vehicle market.
An earlier set of spy images even gave us a good look at the cabin of the Skoda Enyaq iV. This helped us with a clear look at some of the highlights of the cabin. Subsequently, I went up and close to the e-SUV at the Bharat Mobility Expo 2023. Unlike the latest crop of Skodas, which have a 2-spoke steering wheel, the Enyaq IV features a 3-spoke unit. Meanwhile, a bigger highlight comes in the form of a pretty big free-standing infotainment touchscreen unit. The cabin reeks of quality and there are enough premium bits strewn around the door panels as well as the dashboard.
Skoda Enyaq IV Specs
Internationally, this electric SUV is available in a host of engine variants. While details of the India-spec model are scarce, we believe it will be sold in the most potent variant of all. The car will likely have a 77 kWh battery pack running a dual electric motor setup – one each for both axles. The resultant All-Wheel Drive should even ensure respectable soft-road capabilities. This configuration offers a peak power of 265 hp and a claimed 0-100 km/h run of 6.9 seconds. The SUV has a WLTP range of 513 km. Replenishing the batteries will be possible through a 125 kW DC fast charger. The Enyaq iV measures 4,648 mm in length and 1,877 mm in width.
Our View
The launch of the Skoda Enyaq iV will mark the Czech carmaker’s foray into the country’s ever-evolving EV space. With this e-SUV joining models like the Kia EV6, Hyundai Ioniq 5, and BYD Seal EV, those looking for a premium electric vehicle will pretty much enjoy a diverse selection of world-class EVs. The wider variety not only helps the consumer but even promotes the growth of the market. This, in turn, works in the favour of the potential customers. Also, the launch of the Enyaq should appeal to the Skoda enthusiasts willing to embrace electrification. Stay tuned as we bring more updates on the launch of the Enyaq IV electric SUV.
