The 5-door version of the Force Gurkha is about to launch in our market. We have spotted the test mule doing rounds on public roads for many months now. It is one of the most prominent off-roading SUVs among adventure-seekers in our country. This segment currently has the likes of the Mahindra Thar and Maruti Jimny 5-door. Note that the 5-door version of the Thar is also about to launch in India. Hence, this niche space is getting a lot of traction as the trend of lifestyle off-roading machines increases in India. 5-Door Force Gurkha Closer to Launch
This video comes from Harsh VLOGS on YouTube. The host shares some details and his opinions about the Gurkha. We have seen the teaser of the Gurkha recently. It is hard to ignore the Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon likeliness. The overall silhouette is boxy and upright, much similar to the G-Wagon. At the front, there are round headlamps with integrated LED DRLs, turn indicators on the bonnet, a solid bumper and a clamshell bonnet. There is even a functional snorkel on the A-pillar to improve its water-wading capacity.
On the sides, the resemblance with the G-Wagon is even more pronounced. There are colossal wheel arches which accommodate new alloy, wheels, creaseless door panels, side steps to enhance the ingress and egress characteristics, a tall boy stance and sturdy roof carrier and more. At the rear, it will get the side-opening boot door with compact vertical taillamps, a practical bumper and a boot lid-mounted spare wheel. All these attributes will be carried forward from the existing Gurkha.

Specs
While there are no official announcements regarding the powertrain options, we suspect it might get the existing Mercedes-sourced 2.6-litre 4-cylinder turbo diesel mill which churns out a rather subtle 91 hp and 250 Nm of peak power and torque. Complimenting this engine will be a sole 5-speed manual transmission. The vlogger in this video mentions that if there are no modifications to this engine, it is possible that the SUV might not be able to attract many buyers, especially since there are alternatives in Thar and Jimny.
Author’s Note
Force has always maintained that the Gurkha is a barebones and capable off-roading SUV. Hence, the focus on introducing new features has always taken the back seat. But as people prefer all-rounder SUVs which are capable of possessing decent off-road abilities, as well as everyday comfort, it is pertinent to have modern functionalities. We have seen Mahindra making the Thar modern as a result. It shall be interesting to see how well customers respond to the new Gurkha.
