Its massive popularity in many parts of the world is the reason why Tesla could consider bringing it to India as well. The Indian government recently green-lighted the EV policy which promises to reduce the import duties from over 100% to 15% if the foreign carmaker agrees to invest $500 million toward local manufacturing. Tesla was trying hard to find an opening in our market and might have finally got it.

The body is extremely slippery to ensure a low drag coefficient. Apart from that, there are aero wheels, flush-fitting door handles, frameless windows, and plenty of hardware for ADAS features. At the rear, there is a sloping roofline with a bootlid-integrated spoiler, split-LED taillamps and a flowing overall design with a rugged skid plate.

Interior and Features
On the inside, the Tesla popularized a minimalist button-less theme. There are no physical buttons to do anything. Instead, there is a colossal central screen which displays the information for the driver, offers electrical operation for entertainment, HVAC, glove box, ORVMs, steering control, seat functions, connected car tech, headlights, frunk and boot operation, AC flow, fan speed, dog mode, and more. Apart from that, there are two wireless charging slots at the front, a digital key card, soft-touch materials, powered front seats, a glass roof, frameless IRVM, decent space at the rear, a flat floor, rear AC vents, massive powered boot, etc.

Specs
Tesla Model Y comes with multiple powertrain options in the international markets. These range from RWD to AWD with Long Range and Performance versions. In its most powerful performance trim, it generates a respectable 455 hp and 660 Nm of peak power and torque. The battery offers a decent capacity of 81 kWh. We shall have to wait a bit longer to see which powertrain the Tesla Model Y comes to our shores. Also, we might even get the Tesla Model 3 first. The expected prices of the Model 3 and Model Y are around Rs 40 lakh and Rs 45 lakh, respectively.
