Specs
There are multiple powertrain options on the Ford Everest in international markets. The most prominent one of the lot is the potent 2.0-litre EcoBlue bi-turbo diesel engine, featuring a variable geometry turbocharger that churns out an impressive 210 PS and 500 Nm of peak power and torque. Power delivery is managed by a 10-speed automatic gearbox, engineered for both performance and efficiency. As a robust off-road SUV, it boasts a specialized 4×4 configuration with driver-selectable modes, a generous ground clearance of 220 mm, and an 800 mm water-wading capability, complemented by an 80-litre fuel tank. It remains to be seen whether this model will be introduced to the Indian market with the same powertrain or if it will retain the outgoing model’s engine, which delivered 175 PS and 420 Nm of peak power and torque.

Author’s Note
If the recent Ford job postings and the sightings of Ranger and Endeavour in Chennai are any indication, we could be on the brink of witnessing the return of the American automaker to our market after a hiatus of two and a half years since it ceased manufacturing cars here. With an existing Chennai plant capable of producing 150,000-200,000 cars and 350,000 engines annually, Ford’s re-entry into the Indian market holds significant strategic importance. The company will undoubtedly be keen on overcoming the challenges that previously led to substantial losses amounting to $2 billion. This time around, prioritizing profitability will be paramount. While the prospect of introducing premium models like the new-generation Endeavour and the Mach-E is being considered, the focus will primarily be on mainstream models such as the mid-size SUV to strengthen its position in the country.
