The Maruti Fronx-based Toyota Taisor will arrive in our market on April 3, 2024. This marks another instance of a rebadged product within the Suzuki-Toyota partnership. Previous examples include Baleno-Glanza, Brezza-Urban Cruiser, Grand Vitara-Hycross, and Hyryder-Invicto. The Fronx will soon join this lineup with its Toyota equivalent. Consistent with these models, minimal aesthetic changes are expected beyond the replacement of company logos. For now, let us take up 5 key aspects that we expect to make it to the Toyota counterpart of the Maruti Fronx.

1. Tweaked Exterior Design
While the overall silhouette of the Toyota Taisor will resemble the Maruti Fronx, we can expect a few changes to set it apart. Some of the top design highlights include LED daytime running lights positioned on the bonnet, LED headlights located on the bumper, a prominent grille featuring a chrome belt and the Toyota emblem. Additionally, a sporty skid plate will be incorporated to augment its overall attractiveness. On the sides, squared wheel arches will encase new alloy wheels, while side body skirting will contribute to its robust appearance, evoking the essence of the Fronx. At the rear, slight modifications will be made to the taillights and bumper elements compared to the Fronx.

2. Interior Cabin and Features
The one area which would again be almost similar to the Fronx is the cabin. The dashboard and cabin layout will closely mirror those of the Fronx, though there might be variations in the colour scheme for certain cabin elements. However, the feature set will closely align with that of the Fronx. Key highlights include a head-up display, controls mounted on the steering wheel, cruise control, a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone integration, a 360-degree camera, six airbags, a textured dashboard design, electrically adjustable mirrors, wireless smartphone charging, automatic climate control, ample cabin and trunk space, and other amenities. Hence, modern customers will find massive appeal with the latest amenities.

3. Specs
We anticipate no alterations to the powertrain options compared to the Fronx. The Maruti Fronx currently offers a selection between two engine variants – a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine and a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine. The former delivers 90 PS of power and 113 Nm of torque, while the latter provides a more robust performance with 100 PS of power and 147.6 Nm of torque. The less powerful engine is paired with either a 5-speed manual or AMT transmission. Additionally, there exists a CNG variant delivering a peak output of 76 hp and 99 Nm of torque. As for the turbo-petrol variant, both 5-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmission options are available.

4. Price
As is the case with all Maruti-rebadged products, there are barely any changes to the prices. Hence, we have a fair idea of what the prices could be based on the prices of the Fronx. At the moment, the Maruti Fronx retails in India from Rs 7.51 lakh to Rs 13.04 lakh, ex-showroom. Since the Taisor will borrow almost every element from the Fronx including the exterior, interior and powertrain, we don’t think that prices will be all that different. Therefore, you can assume a retail sticker to read out the same amount.

5. Fuel Mileage
Maruti Suzuki cars are successful due to their extraordinary mileage numbers. That has been the USP of the Japanese carmaker in our market since its inception. Indian customers are price and mileage-sensitive. Recognizing this, all Maruti cars offer among the highest fuel efficiency numbers in their respective segments. Since the Toyota Taisor will come with the same powertrain as the Maruti Suzuki Fronx, we can guess that the mileage figures will almost be similar too. The 1.2-litre manual version of the Fronx offers an impressive 21.79 km/l (ARAI), while the AMT generates an even better 22.89 km/l. On the other hand, the 1.0-litre turbo manual has a mileage of 21.5 km/l, whereas the automatic version gives 20.01 km/l.
