We have discussed many times that the German luxury carmaker BMW is burning the midnight oil to give a new look and mechanicals to the X3. Now the car could be ready and may well make its debut in April 2014 at the New York Auto Show. Recently, a few spy images of the prototype were uploaded online. Looking at these images plenty of details can be found out and we can easily be assured that the crossover will not undergo a major revamp but instead will opt for an evolutionary facelift. Say hello to the 2015 BMW X3 Facelift.
The facelift does not look a grand affair but few tweaks here and there. Just as we have the 5 Series LCI, the X3 LCI (Life Cycle Impulse) will also get a bit of rework for its bumpers. A bit of tweaks will also go in full LED headlights. Apart from this, nothing changes on the outside. On the inside, you will now have features like improved iDrive system and a Head Up display to add some quality to your driving time. There may not be any update to the existing engine options. Hence in India, we will continue to get the ongoing two diesel engine options. The base model runs on a 2.0-liter engine which churns out 184 BHP power, while the higher variants has a 3.0-liter straight-six engine producing 258 BHP maximum power. All these variants receive power through an 8-speed automatic transmission. The engines have already proven their worth in the driveability and performance department.
The existing variant will be taken off from the production belt by the end of March 2014. This gives an unofficial indication about the probable launch event of the 2015 BMW X3 facelift. However, the company has chosen to keep mum about any development. We may soon see some teaser coming out to announce the update. Currently, the X3 is manufactured at BMWs American facility located in South Carolina. For India, its assembly plant in Chennai gets CKD (Completely Knocked Down) kits of the crossover from South Carolina.
