TVS has been trying hard to be among the top two wheeler manufacturers of the nation but the same has been dominated by the likes of Hero, Bajaj and Honda. TVS introduced the Phoenix 125cc in India as a premium 125cc offering but the same was shadowed by the launch of the Bajaj Discover 125ST. The company is now trying to get a piece of the premium 110cc segment by introducing a 110cc bike which will be based on the TVS Phoenix and will lock horns with the Bajaj Discover 100T.
The bike has recently been caught on test at the Hosur-Salem highway which is close to the company’s facility. The bike features styling similar to the Phoenix 125cc which is quite a good thing according to us because the masses are aware about the bike and a similar styling would surely aid sales. The 109.7cc engine of the bike is expected to develop a maximum power of 8.18 BHP with the peak torque being 8.1 NM.
The engine will be mated to a 4 speed manual gearbox in all likelihood. TVS is believed to be tweaking the bike in a manner that it delivers a level of performance that’s a notch higher than the competition and at the same time, does not compromise on the fuel efficiency. The word on the street is that the 110cc bike based on the Phoenix might be christened as the Victor, a name plate which TVS last used in 2008. It could also be true that the bike is a lower specced variant of the Phoenix that has been caught on test.
TVS had recently launched the TVS Jupiter scooter in the Indian market which joined the Wego to take on the likes of the Honda Activa and will soon be launching the Scooty Zest as well. The company’s partnership with BMW is also bout to yield results soon as their sub 500cc bikes are expected by 2015.
TVS was one of the most celebrated two wheeler companies in the country but the same lost its charm later on. Can it restore its long lost glory? We hope it can. What about you?
