Tata Punch EV vs Nexon Drag Race
This video comes from Charlie Vlogs on YouTube. The team conducts drag races with multiple traction mode combinations. In the first round, they put the SUVs in their sportiest settings. This refers to AC OFF, Traction OFF and Sport Mode ON. This represents the peak performance of any car. On the count of three, they launch the SUVs. Initially, the Punch EV experiences a slight lag which is why the Nexon takes the lead. However, at around 75 km/h, the Punch EV shoots past the Nexon rapidly. Thereafter, there was no chance of the ICE-powered Nexon catching the Punch EV.

For the subsequent rounds, they tweak the AC and drive mode settings. In fact, the Punch EV was able to win the drag race even when there were three people inside it, while the Nexon only had two! It was only when the Punch EV had the AC On and was in City mode that the Nexon was able to win the race. In all other settings, the power of the electric mill was supreme. This clearly highlights the characteristics of IC engines, as well as electric powertrains.

Specs Comparison
The Punch EV has made a transition to a dedicated pure EV architecture, offering potential buyers a choice between two battery pack options – a 25 kWh and a 35 kWh. The smaller battery pack provides a range of 315 km (MIDC), while the larger one extends the range to an impressive 421 km on a single charge. These batteries feature two e-Drive options – a 60 kW (80 hp) PMSM AC with 114 Nm and a 90 kW (120 hp) PMSM AC with peak power and torque of 190 Nm, resulting in a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 9.5 seconds and a top speed of 140 km/h. With a 50 kW DC fast charger, the EV can be juiced up in 56 mins for 10% to 80%. On the other hand, the Nexon comes with a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder turbo petrol mill which develops a decent 120 PS and 170 Nm of peak power and torque. This engine comes with either a 6-speed manual or an automatic transmission.

Author’s Note
Recently, YouTubers have frequently resorted to drag races as a standard method for comparing and evaluating the performance of two cars. However, it is important to recognize that using drag races for such assessments may not be the most advisable strategy. This is because drag races have the potential to cause long-term damage to vehicles, as most cars are not engineered for prolonged high-speed straight-line runs. Therefore, we strongly advise against attempting drag races with your own vehicle. In practice, the majority of individuals do not operate their cars in such an extreme manner due to safety concerns.
