As many as 28,210 vehicles were recorded to have crossed the Atal Tunnel between December 24 and December 25, causing massive traffic jams in the hill station of Himachal Pradesh. The festive season at the end of every year draws lakhs and lakhs of tourists to Himachal Pradesh. The prominent destinations for the visitors include Manali, Shimla and Dharamshala. However, after the availability of the Atal Tunnel, people get access to places which were impossible to reach during winter previously because of extreme weather conditions at Rohtang Pass.

Traffic Jams at Atal Tunnel
The internet is flooded with the news about the insane traffic jams around Manali and Atal Tunnel. In addition, people were also stranded due to the snow on the North and South portals of the tunnel. This is the highest number of vehicles crossing the tunnel in a single day. This data includes 14,865 cars entering the tunnel from Manali and 13,345 cars exiting the tunnel. This created traffic congestion on the narrow roads around the area. Still, the local police and authorities were able to tackle the situation quite well with unwavering dedication.

Boon For Hoteliers
You must have heard about the disastrous monsoons for Himachal Pradesh this year. There was immense damage to the mountains due to extreme rains. As a result, the tourism industry was crippled this season. But with fresh snow and favourable sentiments, tourists are finally visiting the hill state. In fact, the hotel occupancy is already predicted to be 100% for the new year’s eve. Apart from that, January 1 to January 6 will offer the Manali Carnival too. It will display the local culture and cuisine. Hence, the next few days will witness a huge influx of tourists.

Long traffic jams in hill stations like Manali, Shimla and Dharamshala are quite common during this part of the year. The local Meteorological Office has predicted snowfall on December 30 and December 31.
