The fast-emerging electric cars segment in India is pushing carmakers to make foray into the EV market. Yet another carmaker which plans to join the fray is Skoda India. The carmaker seems to be close to launching the Enyaq iV e-SUV in India. The upcoming model has been seen road-testing sans camouflage on many occasions. Earlier this year, it even came to light that Volkswagen will launch the ID 4 here, probably in the GTX avatar. What’s noteworthy here is that the Enyaq and the ID 4 share the MEB platform. So, from the looks of it, Skoda and VW will introduce an EV each, much like what the brands have done with the MQB-A0-IN-based cars. On launch, these cars will lock horns with the likes of Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq 5.

Skoda Enyaq iV Seen Sans Camouflage on Multiple Occasions
The image showcases a white Enyaq iV seen undergoing night-time testing. With so many sightings of this vehicle, it’s clear that the commercial launch isn’t too far in the offing. In fact, in an interview this year, Petr Solc, Director at Skoda Auto India, even spoke about his company’s approach. He said, “We will commence with the Enyaq within the current fiscal year, aiming to assess the market. Based on a positive market response, we will explore avenues for introducing additional EV models.” This insight offers a transparent glimpse into the strategic plan that the Czech carmaker intends to implement for the Indian market.
An earlier set of spy images even reveal the interior of the Enyaq. This gave us a glimpse at some of the distinctive features. Notably, the Skoda Enyaq IV sports a three-spoke steering wheel. This is in deviation from the two-spoke design seen in current Skoda models such as the Kushaq and Slavia. The center stage is occupied by an impressive free-standing infotainment touchscreen, accompanied by an electric parking brake, premium elements on the door panels, dashboard, and around the center console—attributes befitting a car in this segment. This upcoming electric SUV has dimensions of 4,648 mm in length and 1,877 mm in width.

Specs
While we await official confirmation, it’s like that the Skoda Enyaq iV will launch here in its sportiest configurations. If true, the car will have a 77 kWh battery pack powering dual electric motors—one on each axle. This, in turn, will result into an all-wheel-drive setup. With 265 hp on tap, it will be able to achieve a 0-100 km/h acceleration in just 6.9 seconds. The vehicle’s WLTP range is an impressive 513 km. Charging capabilities include a 125 kW DC fast charging system. The exact showroom debut date is yet to be determined, but expectations point towards a potential launch in the first half of 2024.
Author’s Note
We feel that the launch of the Skoda Enyaq iV in India will improve the landscape for premium electric car buyers. With a broader array of choices, the buyers will be able to choose from a bouquet of world-class EVs, including the Enyaq IV, Kia EV6, Hyundai Ioniq 5, and Volvo XC40 Recharge. As consumers gain access to a wide spectrum of options, each with its unique set of attributes, the consumer will be the biggest beneficiary. The larger variety not just empowers buyers to select a vehicle that aligns precisely with their preferences, but even fosters healthy competition. With the Enyaq iV poised to make its mark, Skoda India enthusiasts planning to embrace electrification finally have a car to look forward to.
