An unfortunate case emerges from Kolkata, West Bengal, where a man in a Mercedes kills a scooter rider. We keep witnessing countless cases of hit-and-run almost every day. This is another such case. Indian roads are some of the most dangerous in the world. The main reason for that is that drivers are reluctant to follow traffic regulations. Moreover, they are often involved in careless driving. Man in Mercedes Kills Scooter Rider
As per various reports, the man was at a party along with his friend on Strand Road. They borrowed the Mercedes from one of their other friends. On the way to somewhere, the driver suddenly decided to take a sharp cut. As a result, the luxury car ended up hitting a scooter which was carrying 3 persons. Unfortunately, one of them, 19, died on the spot, while the other two were injured. After this collision, the occupants of the Mercedes fled the scene. Perhaps, they were fearing the consequences. The Police have registered the case and slapped IPC 304 (culpable homicide) and IPC 308 (attempt to culpable homicide) charges.

As a part of the investigation, they are retrieving the ECU of the car. They will consult the Mercedes officials to gather information about the speed of the vehicle during the time of the accident. Moreover, the saliva and blood samples of the accused have been sent to forensic experts to establish whether they were under the influence of drugs. Furthermore, the Police are collecting CCTV footage from Strand Road, the Maidan area and Hastings to trace the exact movement and route of the Mercedes.

While it has not been established in this case yet, we keep coming across numerous cases of drunk driving. When people are not in their senses, they lose the ability to think of the consequences of their actions. That is the worst time for them to get behind the wheel of a car. They often overspeed and end up getting entangled in such horrific situations. While it might have been just another day out for them, a life has been lost in this process. We can only hope that the Police swiftly conclude their investigation and the driver receives appropriate punishment as per the law.
